No, what Rojo said is simple solution and accommodates both, father and the hospital:
"Wouldn't the dad get tested for Covid right before giving the organ? Are the tests not accurate? If they aren't, couldn't you require him to do two weeks in isolation before the transplant? Have the dad check into the hospital for two weeks, never leave, and then give up the organ so you know he doesn't have it."
As much as I can't stand covid lunacy and stupidity, this is one of those exceptions where I have to side with restrictions. The science is pretty clear that contracting covid from an organ transplant increases one's risk of death from 15-30% so the restriction in this case makes sense.
However if the kid dies from being unable to find a kidney, then the doctors would have blood on their hands.
At this point the restriction is complete BS as pretty much every vaccinated person got COVID when Omicron emerged. Their policy is out of date, as infection rates are now higher among the vaccinated than the unvaccinated. The main people getting COVID now are people who were boosted.
Cleveland Clinic. That figures. 10 months ago, the day after this story was published, their PR minions were falling all over themselves trying to issue an inane blathering retraction. They certainly don't want to throw away the money to be made from the Covid "vaccines".
CLEVELAND (WJW) — The Cleveland Clinic recently studied the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccination among people who caught the virus and those who haven’t.
The study finds that anyone who previously tested positive for a SARS-CoV-2 infection did not get additional benefits from the vaccine.

Even CNN is starting to acknowledge acquired immunity:
The Omicron subvariant caused as many as 3 in 4 cases of Covid-19 in the United States last week, according to the latest genomic surveillance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; so far, there are no signs...

So contracting Covid from an organ transpant increases risk of death by 15%. From what? 10%? Does your risk go to 11.5%? That is really meaningless without any baseline risk. This also assumes that he has Covid when they do the transplant. If only we had a technology that would allow one to check if they have Covid prior to giving their son a kidney........
If you read the article the whole family had Covid which is better than vaccine immunity, so this is 100% virtue signaling.
The restrictions make no sense, and as usual are not “following the science”. The hospital will use a kidney from someone who is deceased and was not vaccinated, but they won’t allowing using this dad’s kidney because he is not vaccinated. So the hospital is requiring a live donor to be vaccinated but not a deceased donor. As usual with all these COVID policies and restrictions, they do not “follow the science” and make zero sense.
The requirement is protecting the living donor, not the recipient.
Its not an issue of the father infecting the son with covid through the kidney. The transplant is unwilling to put the donor at risk without having all the safeguards in place
It makes sense and follows the science.
This makes it even stupider then.
If the living donor consents to the procedure and is informed of the risks, who cares?

So presumably he'll have to get the kidney from someone who died, meaning there will be 1 less kidney out there. Ridiculous.
The process of organ transplantation is scientifically and logistically complex. Rigorous requirements must be met prior to consideration for transplantation, irrespective of whether a patient is on the 'list' or receiving a living-donor transplant. There are additional specific requirements depending on organ(s) involved. While organs may be scarce, so are medical resources; especially transplant surgeons. It is unreasonable to compel a transplant surgeon to perform a surgery on patients who do not strictly follow guidelines placed for the purpose of optimizing outcomes. While some of it may seem like 'jumping through hoops,' the ability to meet all of the stringent requirements also speaks to the patient's readiness for surgery, as postoperative compliance with medical therapy is of tantamount importance.
COVID has killed a million people in our country and is still killing people every day. Our doctors and hospital staff have all seen dozens of deaths from the virus, some have seen hundreds of deaths. They know more about the virus than we do, and they are fighting it to the best of their ability. It is okay to question them, but using propaganda to try and discredit them is more harmful than helpful.
Disgusting. Find another hospital. Consider ones outside the USA.
How about just getting vaccinated.
Seems the father is more comfortable playing the antivaxx story than caring about his son.
Even if he gets the jab, it still takes weeks before he gets decent protection from the vaccine, so that he will get to a point where he can still get infected and pass on COVID, but will be less likely to have severe symptoms.

That's the real point here. The Epoch Times doesn't care about this kid one bit, they just want to stir up trouble. And the headline is wrong. It should read "selfish paranoid dad denies son life-saving medical treatment"
Lots of hospitals out there who would love to take that insurance money. Keep looking.
This "father" declined donating the kidney in 2018 ... pre-pandemic. He decide to make his kid wait. What kind of "father" lets his kid go through the stress of continued dialysis becasue dad wants to wait?
This has nothing to do with insurance money. This has to do with the mega-lawsuit the lawyers this "father" will flocking at his door if his kid gets sick, or dies, from the donated kidney.
Meanwhile, this "father" is making good money telling this story via appearance fees on certain media.

The Epoch Times most certainly helped this dad get a lot of paid appearance fees form other media outlets.
