Bruce is stepping away from acting. Aphasia can impact cognitive abilities and ability to communicate. Has anyone here known anyone with this condition?

I’m at a loss for words.
Is he the guy who played Forest Gump ?

What condition does he have? Aphasia is a symptom that can be caused by a lot of different conditions.
My wife is a speech language pathologist and worked at a center for people with aphasia. Once you have aphasia, you don't get better. Treatment is really just to help you cope and to try to keep it from progressing. Most of the people with aphasia were stroke victims, although aphasia can occur with any sort of brain trauma from tumors to TBIs. There was also a former NFL defensive back who had aphasia from all the TBIs he had during his career (he played in the late 70s and early 80s when there were no concussion protocols and helmets were pretty crappy).
Most people with aphasia will experience getting stuck when trying to speak. They can get stuck on certain sounds or just cannot find the next word they need to say. Treatment involves learning strategies to help get through these situations and can include using pictures, writing and finding different words.

This guy is a quality poster whether you tend to agree with him or not. The only valuable post in this thread so far.

There was a female runner/writer here in the Sac area that had it and it was pretty awful. She was miserable and it seemed long walks gave her some comfort, but she was struck by a car and killed during a late night walk:
See expressive aphasia a good bit after strokes or traumatic brain injuries in the therapy world. Receptive aphasia less so, and sometimes global aphasia. Saw a guy today who could only say “yes” “no” and “what”. Read into Broca’s and Wernicke’s areas of the brain for some interesting info.
At least now he has an excuse for forgetting his lines.
Paying homage to the great Bruce Willis

I had "nominal aphasia" - inability to recall or recognize the words/names of things - due to undiagnosed pernicious anemia. The words for basic things like shoes, socks, pens, keys, paper, bread, coffee, car, television, dog, cat, child, etc became impossible for me to retrieve. It was horrible. But PA is reversible with B12 shots, so I got my word recall back.
I feel for Bruce Willis. I always have enjoyed him as an actor.
My father suffers from speech aphasia after having a brain bleed a couple years ago. Thankfully he was able to make an 80% or so recovery and get back to living his life. Terrible to hear of it happening to Bruce or anyone else.
It's a real shame that he won't be able to play GI John 2 now. I really liked the guy on Moonlighting and Die Hard.
