“the USATF foundation” sounds a lot like Vin funding his own meets

Assuming Josette will be there, interested to see how the rest of the 1500 field shapes up. Haven't seen the new UVA facility but this might be a good reason to come by.

Assuming you live close. Seems like a no brainer. Why wouldn't you check it out?

The Dogwood Track Classic has existed much longer than Vin has been in Charlottesville, and it will continue to exist when he is gone. I ran there while in high school over 20 years ago. Fetzer never took advantage of this huge recruiting tool going on in his front yard, it would be good to see Vin take an interest. Not that UVA has any trouble attracting in-state talent.

I'd never heard of the foundation, although if I think about it, I guess I've seen commercials and signs for it when watching meets on TV. Looks like Vin is on the Board of Directors, which makes sense as he's the president of USATF (Max $iegel is on it too-- I wonder how many Nike executives are), but it says their mission is to "raise money and give it to the athletes." So if that's what's happening here, that should be good for track & field. Right? And how expensive could it be to add two pro events into a high school meet? Everything is already there for the high school meet. It's just like adding another flight of jumpers and another section of a race.

If only they could guarantee Stanford-like weather.

Dogwood is dope! I remember when Grant Holloway ran at this meet in high school.

Who is going to be in this mens long jump? I know UVA had All American throwers but excited to see some jumps too.

One of my favorite HS races occurred there. Brandon McGorty vs Alex Lomong vs Drew Hunter in the 800 in 2016.

Texas was a confederate state.

Texas used to have a large portion of Colorado in its boundary but it got chopped off if it wanted to join the union and stay a slave state.

Perhaps you could say things west of I-35 and south of Austin are also part of the southwest culturally. But saying Texas isn't a part of the south is potentially dangerous and revisionist history.

If your point is purely cultural the most populated half of Texas (east of I-35) is still culturally southern from the culinary perspective with It being one of the most renown BBQ states.

The long jump got scrapped when we couldn't find enough interested athletes. Same was true when we tried to switch to a men's 110m hurdles. But the women's 1500m should be a good race. Michaela is going for the facility record, which is 4:07.35, set by Josette Norris in 2021.
