Putin with Ukraine is as unreasonable as Biden with Palestine.

It kind of does matter what the winning military demands

How is accepting neutrality "breaking news?" Zelensky has said that for weeks already.

Western media spin can be weird and self-defeating. Why try to paint this as a big concession? Maybe they think it can forestall recognition of the separatists.

France and Germany went to Russia with real concessions on NATO and Ukraine. Russia had insane demands on NATO that included the right to direct where NATO could and could not position military assets. It was pretty clear that Russia had no intention of negotiating before it invaded.

A partition of Ukraine is probably where this will end up. Zelensky may be willing to give Russia a bit of Donbas from Donetsk to Mariupol. Mariupol has been destroyed. So, giving it to Russia is no loss for Ukraine.

How it’s going (5+ weeks later): Ukraine preparing to give Putin what he originally wanted.

U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Israeli and European history says Russia will continue the European policy of mass genocide in Ukraine until current residence leave Ukraine or are killed and resistance efforts are crushed. Russia will then move in new residents to fill in Ukraine friendly to Moscow. This is how it is done.

Ukraine = perpetual goal of lebensraum for whichever dictator sets up shop next door. What those poor folks need is a couple of decent mountain ranges.

Zelensky is just trying to prevent the slaughter of his people. The problem with the compromise is that Putin will just bastardize the opportunity to regroup Russian separatists and continue to try to undermine the Ukrainian government. He's just reverting his tactics to previous efforts.
