These are all of the Invitational, Seeded and Rated 1600m and Mile races from the 2022 Meet of Champions Distance Classic track meet held March 26 at Azusa P...
You guys ever notice the mile doesn’t start on a straight line across the track? Gosh I wonder why.
Did you actually watch the race? He was out in lane 3 and 4 around the first turn running extra distance. Did you not notice that?
Your idea only works in theory, but usually not in reality, because you usually can't run from the starting line in lane 8 straight to lane 1 before the turn starts, which means you are usually stuck running really wide around the first turn.
And the few extra feet he got in lane 8 at the starting line doesn't come close to compensating for all the extra distance he had to run in lane 3 and 4 around the first turn. It's simple math folks. How do people not understand something so basic?

Derr, maybe he was in lane 3 and 4 on the turn because he didn’t get off the line fast enough, in the first place.
I was being facetious. I was making fun of the fact that there’s always some person who thinks the 4-7 guys on super strong teams should transfer away to other high schools or states to win races/titles. Yet, we never say the same thing for any levels above high school.

I just did the math, and it looks like he could have broken 4:00.4 if no one but his pacer had been allowed in the race.
He may have run three extra meters by not taking a perfect tangent into the break. He averages 0.42 seconds for three meters.
Also worth noting that he ran the shortest distance ever run in a mile race for the final 1530 meters, and he had an escort with perfect pacing for more than half of it. So all in all he got a pretty fair shake.
Wasn’t it just a year ago when everyone was saying Kessler and Harrison were the best ever? Now we got a new flavor of the year. where’s the kid getting punched during a race?
