Just curious if anyone has an update on Centrowitz. Is he still with BTC, Nike? It seems he’s done his own thing all winter and not training with them? Injured? Being coached by daddy? BTC did recently post an Instagram story featuring him ..
Centro has retired from competitive racing. He doesn’t want to make a big deal out of it. He is an Olympic gold medalist. A legend. Possibly the greatest 1500m runner in US history.
Guess I’d retire too if half my former BTC teammates and a lot of the up and coming 1500m runners can and will beat me at trials. Would have been nice to see him really give it a go at the 5000m

He is a great example why we need 3000m at Olympics and World Championships and not 5000m & 10000m. Fifteen-hundred metres is one of the original Modern Olympics events. Fifteen-hundred metres is has been a popular event every Olympics. It would be great to see some of the aging 1500m stars at 3000m. Asking 1500m guys to choose 3000mSC or 5000m while in their 30s is too much to ask. An agreement can be made at Olympics and World Championships to show an entire 3000m final sans commercial breaks. Tv networks can go 7 1/2 and 8 1/2 minutes sans commercial breaks. They do it all the time when the want to.

How can you make $hit up so confidently? People like you are the reason why nothing on this board should be believed. Weak.

example #257 of people here either forgetting about lagat or not considering him American

Girlfriend was busted when they were together. Heat got a little too much for him.

Yeah I must have forgotten about Lagat’s Olympic gold medal. As I said, Centro is possibly the greatest 1500m runner in US history.

Lagat's 2007 gold is superior to Centro's 2016 gold. You know this.
His silver in 2004 is also far superior, as he almost beat the GOAT, but he was in a Kenya singlet back then so I won't push it.
But Centrowitz has an argument, sure.
In terms of the fields, you could probably argue 2016 was actually better. Kiprop was much better in 2016 than 2007. Nick Willis was more seasoned. Makhloufi = Ramzi. Souleiman and Iguider were better depth than Boukensa, Casado et al. Probably changes calculus if Baala hadn't been DQ'ed as he was likely in line for a bronze or silver.

My bad, I will admit I was mixing up his 5k and 1500 accomplishments a bit, as well as when he made the switch. So centro does have a very good argument. For me personally the 3:27 is the tipping point but I see your point that its possibly centro.
Nevertheless, my original point stands, Lagat is far too disrespected on these boards. Most people don't even have him as a top 4-5 American (mt Rushmore post a few weeks back). His 1500 and 5000 success coupled with the best longevity the sport has ever seen (outside of eliud) should have him firmly top 4 maybe top 1
3:27 should not count as the American record considering he competed for Kenya in the '04 Olympics 2 weeks later. Doubly as stupid, since his 3:29 in '05 while actually competing for America would still be the American record.
Some sites list 3:27 and some list 3:29 as the record.
