I am planning a week vacation with my girlfriend. I want to go somewhere that is interesting for her and that would be a fun place to train for me. Any suggestions?

sorry the title was supposed to be running vacations
When are you going? Where are you going from? How much do you want to spend, or can you afford to spend? What sorts of things does your girlfriend like to do, aside from the um, sorts of things you ccan do anywhere, etc?
We are going this summer in August. We can spend 1-2 thousand including everything. We were thinking about Europe. She enjoys hiking and going to historical places or just walking around and seeing the sites. Thanks for your response.
I know I am going to get killed for this but there is a good article in the most recent Runners World about Berlin you may want to check out... I am not speaking from experience as I have never been there but reading through it certainly has peaked my interest.
If you want to be in the States there are some really nice places to visit and run. Recently I did a ton of running on the west coast. Around San Fran and the neighboring areas. you could also drive the Pacific Coast Highway along Big Sur. If you do there is a really cool trail run near San Luis Obispo - in Montana de Oro State Park.
Good Luck in your search
Rio, baby Rio. I spent 2 weeks in Brasil and stayed at Ippanema beach. The beaches have running paths all along them and they're marked every 400 meters, so no matter where you start from you can click off your splits. The reason I thought you'd like Rio is because in August it's Winter there so it doesn't get crazy hot, more like winter in Miami so you get lows of 50's but most days are just 65º and gorgeous. Other than that I'd just go to Italy personally, it's romantic, you can run there and you can check out all of the sites...
That gives me a bit more. Airfare for both of you is going to kill off nearly a thousand, so you're going to need to go somewhere where the dollar goes a long way and where you can camp or stay at youth hostels. You can do the latter pretty much anywhere in Europe, but the dollar does better in eastern Europe. Finland is great for hiking and the dollar does well there but there aren't a lot of historic sites. Places like Poland or the Czech Republic are good for outdoor stuff and dollar value. Or you might try Ireland where the dollar does OK, there are loads of outdoor and historical places, and you should be able to camp or do hostels. I've heard similar sorts of things about Spain but have no firsthand knowledge.
Thank you.
