“Some athletes have told me that the new spikes can provide a 5- to 15-second boost in the 5,000 meters, so that’s a real time difference.”

Anecdotes are not data.
I always suspected that my Chuck Taylor Converse were holding me back a few seconds!
How many HS kids have run sub 14:37.3 this year? This was the 19th best performance all time at the beginning of the season.

Huh? 14:37.3 was 19th all time for what, Xc? Certainly not track.
yes its a big difference but can you share some more information because i cant belive on it. athletes women can wear these women's shoes
What a maddeningly awful article. Is like throwing crap at a wall and hoping some sticks.
Compares 2021 to 2022 when even in 2021 the majority of athletes had dragonflies (and non Nike schools were already rocking unbranded ones) but besides 2021 XC and indoors overlapped. Why the heck wouldn't they just compare times from 2019 or earlier?
Talks about Dalilah Muhammad and Sydney breaking hurdle records from before either had any new fangled spikes.
Makes it seem like Nike winning 64% of medals in Tokyo was "cause of the spikes" ignoring the fact that they always dominate. 70% of US track medalists in 2016 were Nike athletes.
Lazy journalism like this article contributes nothing meaningful to the conversation. Had hoped we had left the moral panic over spikes in 2021 and I still can't believe people still want to ban them.
