How come you didn't ask Athing Mu about why she choose to run that crazy fast paced mile and then drop out?
She has no experience in running the mile and based on her prowess in the 800m, she and her coach believed 4:20 was possible. It wasn’t and so what? It doesn’t matter that she didn’t feel inclined to run a 75 last lap just to finish.

I can understand why an talented, ambitious, teenage runner would think she could run a 4:20 mile.
But if her 50 something year old experienced coach actually thought that she could do it, then he's not too bright. More likely is that her coach DID know she couldn't do it, but she was insisting on trying it, so he let her try and fail, so then she could get it out of her system, and get back to focusing on the 800.
Either way, the mile race that Mu dropped out of was the most newsworthy thing that Mu has done this year, and so it was the obvious question to ask her.

Yes - 75sec would be pretty embarrassing, wouldn't it?

No dumb@ss, it was the most newsworthy thing she has done only according this message board. But you have to understand this message board includes many like yourself, whome judging by the rest of your post, sees Mu as a big threat to your little blonde pony-tailed middle distance fan fiction.

No experience in the mile? You have no clue what you're talking about. Athing Mu has been running the 1500/mile since at least 2015. Did you actually think she has spent her entire running career only running the 400 and 800?
You should get up to speed on the facts of Athing Mu's running career before saying such rediculous things.

Since you're so smart, why don't you list all the things that Mu has done this year that are more newsworthy than an extremely fast mile attempt at the most important indoor invitational in the United States?

Relax with the hyperbole. It isn't nearly as important since it left the Garden, and DNF'ing a small fry mile isn't newsworthy. A real question would be where she's opening up and what event or what Diamond League she'll be running. Not some pot shot question that magnifies a blip in her small career.

Her college pr in the 1500 was 4:16, 1 race at the off distance in a dual meet win. Most of us here found that result pretty impressive.
If she had coasted at back of the pack to a 4:29/30 mile at Millrose, that would have been a nice pr and a minor success. Instead she stuck her nose in with the leaders and blew up with 300 to go and dnf'ed.
All good fun. Rojo gave her a lot of credit for going with the leaders, rather than just cruising for the pr.

Everybody just needs to relax. Mu is the MOST talented mid D runner in the US now, and likely ever. Can you imagine a world where Hocker or Fisher dominate their best event like Mu did hers last year? Soon enough Mu will run an 800 and happiness will reign in the land. Mu’s got this, we all just need to wait for it.
