Breaking News: Emmanuel Bor, second place in the men’s 3000m at the U.S. Indoor Championships will not compete at the World Indoor Championships after a decision by the U.S. Army.
Like a lot of Army decisions, this is a head-scratcher.
How? the dude literally signed up to protect our country. Priorities and am sure Bor is aligned. Thank you for your service, on and off the track, Hilary!

I think it’s his brother Emmanuel. But regardless, I agree. This decision seems to make a lot of sense. WCAP has their priorities straight to me…

Our country isn't under attack or at war so what's the deal? He'll just be at home in CO Springs doing a workout that weekend instead

Come on brother, his name is even in the thread title.
Soldier first. This is a time where our military needs to be on constant attention. And he chose to be a soldier.
Odds are he’ll leave the army anyway. Seems to be a trend in WCAP that when there are short-term opportunities outside the army, they ditch WCAP first chance.

Agreed, most of these guys have never been to a real unit or served in any capacity except running around a track. He will leave at the first chance like Chelimo, Kipchirchir, his brother, and others that are any good and can make money, it's a done deal.
Is this because Bor might be threatened, or others threatened if he's there, or is it because only he can defense against a greater wartime incident?
I think is probably an over reaction of safety and risk measures set by the army. If a service member wants to travel anywhere out of country, they have to be cleared by their service and the embassy of the country. Even for personal leave during peacetime, apparently. I imagine with the war in Ukraine going on, any service member travel has to be approved by a general or something. I doubt a general cares about an athletic event at the moment…

Yep, to them it seems like more of a job and less a sense of duty
Well this is just plain stupid. Idk if the US army is aware, but last time I checked, Serbia and Ukraine are…*wait for it*…different countries! They’re also not even remotely close together, geographically. Let Bor run!
Agreed and they just sent athletes to the Winter Olympics in China of all places. If all of USATF was not going, I get it, but not the case - total overreaction
