Should I be proud or embarrassed that I am bragging about beating Simon Bairu when he was a redshirt freshman in a "B" race at Stanford 2 years ago?
Not only was he a freshman but I forced him to do all the work and blew his doors off the last 400.

You mean he needED to work on his kick. I think it's safe to say he's much improved in that department. Definitely a good scalp for you to have though for future bragging rights, because Bairu's future looks promising after a repeat championship.

He's making a comeback. He ran 28:06 2 years ago with training far below the ideal. If you think he's done...I surely wounldn't bet a truck on it. He's not.

i remember that race. i ate a "d" and got lapped by bairu and wejo as they blasted the last 200. fun stuff!

My friend's sister beat Mary Lou Retton once when they were both 10 years old, but she only brags about it when she's really drunk.
Simon is a true senior this year, I don't believe he ever redshirted.

I don't know why, but Wejo's post reminded me of when my father once told me he once beat Frank Shorter in the NYC Marathon. My dad never finished under 3:50 or so, so i gave him a look, and he said, yep, I finished, and Shorter dropped out. Ha!

you dont need to work on your kick when you are that more superior than the rest of the field. You can look at Carlos lopes in the world xc. champs 84 and 85, if you cant keep up what good is a kick....but then again i digress, you may be able to keep up for all i know.

Who hasn't beaten a famous runner at least once? I beat Bob Kennedy at the Race for the Cure, Indianapolis, about 4-5 years ago. He was running with his wife, around 21:00 for the 5k. I BEAT YOU BOB! HA!
