+1 on the jason rexing in trainers. But the post that stands out to me was "Should i break up with my girlfriend using a powerpoint presentation". I always wonder what happened to that guy.
it wasn't in the early days but when I came on here around 2011 for the first time since 2005 the first thread I saw was "could a human survive on just dog food and water" I was so entertained that I haven't left since. though I feel the boards have gone downhill with trolls and political threads since then
This. There were always jerks and bickering, from Runners World to tnfmedia to Merv's to here. I've contributed my share of that but finally grew up a bit. I take long breaks from this site, must be some compulsion to ever come back. Even if I post something helpful it seems wasted. I'd feel a lot better if the admin had required registration to post years ago. Seems they favor traffic over integrity and ethics.
Grote Poll from Portland alumnus Ryan Grote, Jersey guy and friend of Nevada/Arkansas nutball John Schiefer. It appeared on here and previously on their eponymous site/board "rungroteschief" and tandfmedia.
I'd agree with this. I came onboard in the Fall of 2002, same with Dyestat (prime years!). There was a higher average quality to the posts, still some trolls and BS, but a better mix. As many have alluded to, there were a lot of guys coming over from T&FN and other boards/chats/lists who wanted a looser conversation.
Plenty of shenanigans and flaming, but less polar, less sensationalist, less immediate and less shallow than today's Letsrun.
I feel like wejo posted a bit more, rojo a bit less. More coaches posting, a few pros; more historical chatter and everything in the context of an internet that didn't have nearly every piece of current/relevant information easy to find. Letsrun stored a lot of stats and knowledge that weren't easy to find; nowadays the info is pretty readily available.
Narkissos (Greek: Νάρκισσος, Roman: Narcissus Latin: NARCISSVS), was the son of the river-god Cephissus and a hunter from Greek mythology known for his great beauty. He fell in love with his reflection, not realizing what it...

some of the best:
-Jason rexing sub-14 in trainers
-“Is __ Update?” Still see a few of these today
-Letsrun trifecta: hot wife (8/10), >$250k annual income, sub 14:30 (although I’ve seen sub 14 also). The running joke was always that some absurd percentage of posters had accomplished that.
-ventolin and his calculations explaining how El G could’ve ran 3:20 or Komen 7:16 or something crazy. Those were always hilarious reads because of the mix of some data analysis and lots of hilarious comments and defenses.

I liked when there was less commentary, like back in the day... To this day, I find the "portal" or "aggregate" aspect about finding interesting articles and race results to be the most valuable. I'm sure some people find the brojo's "journalism" something to aspire too... but I'd rather skip over their takes. To each their own.
The site design is still awful, which to some degree is half the charm. Glad it still hasn't lost it's touch of being a disaster to navigate... (hint) just have the results links go to the hosted results instead of proxying the user...
The message board is exactly the same... world famous... and it's great, if you can effectively read through 234211 advertisements...
To this day... it's the community of Let's Run that continues to make it worth visiting everyday. Thank you all!
Not sure how the site made money . pre pop up ads . One of the classic threads " You know you are a runner if ....... " , by page 20, Mr Chest had the distance guys wound up by insinuating long runs were for 135 lbs men to go into the mountains for oral sex with each other . Mr Chest was the greatest troll character . Mr Chest might have been one of the brojo's looking back.
