"That (smashing the world record) will depend on various factors, like staying injury-free. I don't want to say for sure if I will break it this year but I believe it is possible to lower it to 2:13 or even 2:12," Kosgei, who set a new record in 2:14:04 at the 2019 Chicago Marathon, said.
A female 14:10/29:10-20 type runner with H.M of 1:04:00 can achieve 2:12:00-2:13:00 or even faster within the next three years. Super shoes are a real game changer but not the only thing.
Addendum: change the half marathon for the female to 1:03:00 -1:04:00. More chance for a 2:12:00 marathon.
Some of these girls, on a physical potential level, are almost as good as Nicolas Navarro, the Frenchman who finished 12th in the Olympic marathon with 2:12:50 and recently ran a 2:08:30 marathon.
The psychological component and self belief are also very important.
I refuse to believe this is possible, until you say it's possible, Rojo.

Men world records are about 11% faster in the other Olympic events. If she races 2:12 or 2:13, maybe that means the men's Marathon w.r. is a bit soft and is reading to go down 20 or 30 seconds or are women capable of racing relatively better than men as the distances increase in running? Women gain a relative advantage in swimming as distances increase. Fifty metre free style, women w.r. is more than 13% slower than men w.r.; 1500m, women w.r. is only roughly 5% slower than men 1500m freestyle w.r. What would occur at 40K to 50K, swimming?

Let's keep an eye on the Apr 24 Haspa Marathon Hamburg. YY may be just as likely as Kosgei to go sub-2:14 in the next 2-3 yrs.
Rojo: Can you please dip into the LR petty cash drawer and interview Yehualaw with an interpreter present, to allow her to fully express herself? The more depth and nuance of personality and character that LRC visitors can discern from non-anglophone elites, perhaps the more attention and respect LRCers will give to the achievements of and the unique (and shocking, in many cases) challenges faced by these elites. And maybe, just maybe, hearing YY and other East African runners speak uncensored and at length will lessen the knee-jerk "Doper!" missile-posts that litter this site.
Consider the interpreter-interview a thoughtful experiment. Maybe it works out--even prompting others in the running community to employ a similar format on the reg--or maybe it doesn't.

YY is an awful thing to state without evidence.
In regard to interview, get in line. I am still waiting for Let'srun to formally interview the last living Olympic gold 400-800m medalist, Tom Courtney, 88 years old.
The Shoes give people who cannot run a biomechanical advantage that they would never have had. Add in doping - bingo. These ladies have no progression / personality or reason for anyone to watch. Tokyo TV got it correct.

The men's 1500m record is 14:06 and the women's record is 15:20, which is a 74 second difference. That's closer to 9% than 5%.
The gap might closer for longer distances. Women are closer to parity for the channel swim, for example, although the gap is still there.

The shoes can't turn an untalented runner into a competitive elite--otherwise, you'd be out winning races right now instead of being a clown on a messageboard.
So how the 115 millions population country (Ethiopia) has only 5 reported doping cases in 30 years? And suddenly Uganda (46 millions + High Birth rate) rise in foreground worldwide ranks in a time where there is more controls in Kenya (but not yet for marathon and road races)?

Measure twice ... . I recommend you double check before you plan on correcting me.
In Olympics and World Championships, swimmers swim in 50m pools. You took the men's short course or 25m pool record for 1500m and compared that to women 50m pool 1500m record.
So we are not debating simple math for numerous posts, I will show you the math: 15:20.48 or 920.48 seconds for 50m pool women 1500m freestyle / 14:31.02 or 871.02 for 50m male 1500m freestyle = 1.056784 or 5.6784% difference.
If you do not swim or if you do not coach swimming or if you are not a parent of a swim club member, 25m pools are faster for good to great swimmers. Not for me, I get disorientated doing flip turns, so even though as a kid I could swim about as well as I could run ... . Anyway, 25m pools are faster. I hope you were not less than honest with intent, 25m pool male 1500m w.r. versus female 50m pool, 1500m w.r.
