I think a hot pace will benefit Grant this summer. If the Ugandans push this thing into the 26:30s to try to shake off the kickers like Barega, Fisher could sneak into a medal. Not sure if he has the raw footspeed to kick a 52 in a 27+ race, but hopefully wont need to.
He shouldn't fear the top guys now. If the pace is hot, he can feel confident to run with them. I never saw 26:33 from Fisher but he's in the game now. It's still tough, but I'd back him to beat Rhonex and Kamworor in a kick. Then, it would get down to conditions on the day. He might even take gold on a good day.
Also, I don't want to hear anything about Mo Farah's suspicious late development ever again. Moh Ahmed just dropped his PR by 25 seconds at age 31 - and his old PR was set wearing super shoes, so this is all training (or something else for the cynical)

You don't want to hear about Farah's suspicious development, so you bring up another athlete with suspicious development and tacitly acknowledge his improvement could be the result of drug use...
So happy for the BTC guys. what a team effort. Mo is awesome and like a fine wine getting better with age. McGorty just ran 27:18 and is doing great after his surgery. these guys are humble and supportive of each other - listen to their interviews.
glad the call was made to change the day due to high winds. Without that great call none of the times from the women and men that was witnessed tonight would have happened. Hats off to the meet organizers.

Just pointing out that there's a lot of hypocrisy on the boards. Non-US athletes delivering these type of improvements are always considered obvious dopers. It's the kind of jingoism that led people to overlook Houlihan's suspicious improvement in 2018.
Another case is Mo Katir. He's been dragged on this board for his improvements last year which amounted to around 3.6% over both the 1500 and 3000. You now have Fisher improving by 2.3% in a single year and the flags are out, no questions asked. I don't think he's doping (though I rule nothing out due to the history of PED use in US track and field), but overseas athletes deserve the same benefit of the doubt Fisher is getting now.
I mean he was right there in Tokyo (5th). Just couldn't match the kicks of the guys in front of him. Idk how much this really changes things. Closing in 58 off of 26-mid is impressive -- can he close in 55 or better off of 27-mid pace on a warm day? I guess we'll find out.

Yeah- the way the Africans can shift into ALL OUT SPRINT mode at the end of 10,000m races is the unsolvable challenge at the moment. But 26:33 and edging the recent silver medalist at the event indicates everything else is in place. And he did get by Mo after letting that little gap opened up with 200m to go.
Maybe Grant & Mo need to make championship races are this fast from the gun?
Plus having a little luck involved and catching them on a weak day like Rupp did when he snagged his silver.
They said the same thing about hot falcon, coughlan, wheating and gregorek
That's cool but I dont recall any of them running the 7th fastest time ever in the discipline and actually beating a recent Olympic medalist. Where they even top 50?

Yeah maybe a little team tactics to try to take away from the kickers. Grant & Mo are gonna be on par with just about anybody in a fast race. But we need to see them kick off of a somewhat slow pace in maybe less than ideal conditions. They're on track.
My previous comment was mostly saying that Grant was already a medal threat. Now he's in even better shape.
25 seconds in the 10K is not absurd. Mo Farah's improvement was much less believable.
25 seconds has a different meaning at different paces. Going from 27:50 to 27:25 isn't absurd, but going from 26:59 to 26:34 in one year, and at age 31, is not common. Mo Farah made his big leap between the age of 27 and 28, a point when you would expect distance runners to be at their peak.
Again, not doubting Moh Ahmed, just asking that everyone gets given the same benefit of the doubt until they are caught cheating.
His PR is from 2.5 years ago and was set in a championship race pre-super spikes. Is it really that hard to fathom 25 seconds over 2.5 years with the benefit of spikes, wavelights, perfect weather? Not at all imo
It is much easier for the best 10000m man or woman to medal today, Olympics &/or W.C. than circa 1992. The best 10000m runners get to race fresh now. When there was a preliminary round, an Olympic 10000m gold medalist truly earned their gold.
