WTF with all the excuses about why a great run is ng??? So sick of the idiots whining about shoes and outright slandering these people about drugs with no evidence.
Evidence isn't needed. It's a given in professional sport now.
So you are supposedly some sort of legal professional and yo believe it is acceptable to slander people with no evidence?
Grant ran a fantastic race & I'm happy to see an American replace Rupp on the world stage at this event.
That said -- wondering why BTC is treated like climate change. We know one of their athletes is dirty (received a conviction) & saw how they handled it (reading hand crafted legal talking points, playing dumb, etc). So why are the up votes & down votes the same here? Maybe not the time/place or something like that. I'd like to focus on the good result but the group has lost credibility & hasn't really done anything to earn that back, unless you count Shalane's marathon quest/PR tour last fall. Fisher will go on Citius Mag & get lobbed a ton of soft ball questions.
I don't think 99% of questions or comments should be about doping but there should be room in pre/post race interviews to ask him why we should believe he did this clean when there have been problems in his training group. Just looking for as much transparency as we can get.
If this were a foreign training group the response would be different.
Pretty nuts when American groups get busted for doping and then celebrate American records from the same group. Come on people.
BTC did not get busted, only Shelby did. It is completely unreasonable to attribute her failed test to the entire team. It is also unreasonable to attribute a Kenyan runner's failed test to all Kenyans. To say you are suspicous is one thing, but to slander these athletes is ridiculous.
Our long distance runners haven't been good of late but I'm reassessing. Could medal at Worlds
Does he have even one Olympic medal or WC medal? Not even close. What he has is 5th and 9th place finishes. Not bad, but not exactly Rupp. He very well could be the greater down the road and obviously has great potential. It's kind of nuts to ask this against a guy with two Olympic medals, when Fisher just went and wasn't close to medaling in either event.
I agree and the mods should remove those quotes. It's tiring. Shoes have been progressing since the late 1970's- that's just the way it is.
Drug allegations are uncalled for. If they haven't failed a test then they have to be accepted as clean. When/if they fail, then they're drug cheats.
But to be clear, someone did ask --has he replaced Rupp? Rupp would have easily eclipsed this time in the these shoes. Still amazing and yes shoes are here to stay.
I feel like the super shoes argument is moot. We might as well complain about the runners not running barefoot. ...... It's fair to say that the records now might be incomparable to that of Bekele or even Rupp, but there are far too many variables (better training, nutrition, tech outside of just the shoes) to say that it's just the shoes.
I agree with this and wish that others would come around to this thinking. Governing bodies are slow to react and so it's difficult to move the sport back to where we think it should be.
We should resist to some extent in comparing eras because it's just so difficult to take everything into account: no shoes/barely shoes/EVA/super shoes or dirt path/dirt track/cinder track/rubber track/optimized rubber track etc. Let's just appreciate the athletes for what they are doing/did at the time and not compare so much because there's no way we're going to be able to accurately say that Jim Ryun would have been able to run 3:25.17 with today's technology.
Fisher's run is incredible so let's just celebrate it in and of itself.

I agree with all of the above, but, asking anyone whether they are clean is a pointless exercise, with predictable outcome.
As for why BTC is treated that well despite everything? I'd add positive thinking and patriotism.
Read the 3rd and 4th sentences in my post. Seems comprehension is not your strong point.
You were someone who thought Lance was clean, right?
Nope, not at all. Between the factual comments made by Hamilton and Andreu I knew he was guilty looooooong before it was official. I actually had customers of mine who knew I was into running and cycling ask me and my response was he's guilty as too many people were stating the same thing.
Besides people like you on Letsrun, merely a running forum, who else is saying that? Do you have numerous runners calling him out? If so, name all of them and cite where I can find these statements.
As you can see, there's a BIG difference. By comparing Armstrong to Fisher, you are comparing apples to dirt.
