Kipchoge is so F***** good.
I thought Rupp's run today was fine but now am reassessing.

He is of course nowhere near Kipchoge's fitness, but the 15k course was apparently humid and hilly.
Comparing apples to oranges
Class is LetsRun jumping the gun. This site said the same thing about Kipchoge after London. Rupp will be fine, poor races happen
Rupp is not on Kipchoge's level, and never was (whatever their 10K PBs might be). But that aside, I'm sure Rupp has some good marathons left in him. Maybe even an AR. 43:31 for 15k is not exactly catastrophic.
To be fair don't compare the two. Rupp has never even hinted a possibility of being anywhere close to EK in a marathon.
Now that Kipchoge is coming to America for the majors sweep. Yup. It's over for Rupp. Rupp doesn't carry a fighting spirit. He's a nice guy.
Kipchoge competes in the niceness category very well. Rupp running through a marathon with that injury show me not just a fighting spirit, but a bad ass mfer as well. Kipchoge is simply a better runner.
Well, only one guy could go with Kipchoge in ideal conditions at that pace. Kipchoge is a fair comparison for pretty much no one. Rupp ran almost the same time through 15k on a humid day on a course with more elevation change. Rupp could have paced through 25k of that race if he needed to. 15k is a short race for someone like Rupp. He can get dusted there but run that pace, or something similar, for a lot longer. Kipchoge doesn't even race the half. Feel like Rupp could have finished anywhere from 4th-10th at this race. He's still a medal threat at Worlds, even if he's nearing the end of his career.
Of course it's not over for Rupp. He ran 2:06 in October and that can be competitive on the right day. And that has always been Rupp's place in the marathon at global level - he's competitive only under certain conditions. I'm no Rupp fan, but I think he can still run under 2:07 this year. He no longer has the speed to run what would be considered world class times at anything below marathon distance but he can still be in the mix for a medal in Eugene, maybe even gold if enough top guys don't run
Who does?
Remember Rupp is running Boston in 5 or 6 weeks. most likely he is still in heavy training and did not taper for this 15K. He will be fine
Rupp and Kipchoge ran 14:31 per 5k pace, but one of them for a distance nearly three times longer.
I am a huge Galen Rupp fan but he is not Kipchoge. Galen Rupp is what he is. That is a 2:06 Marathoner. Great for an American but pedestrian globally.
I do feel the miles are catching up to him. He is down to 95 a week (from 110) but clearly the track speed is not there.
I don't see him winning in Eugene this summer.
Connor Mantz is the future in road racing for the USA.
It was probably a training race, very likely not well rested and obviously not in top fitness yet. Yes, he is not the same Rupp of 3-6 years ago but still the best American runner by far. He might have another good 2-3 years left in his legs for the marathon.
well, he's younger than Kipchoge but at 35 he's in the later part of his career.
As others have pointed out, no-one compares that well with Kipchoge. He is the marathon GOAT, no-one else is even close. Rupp is a somewhat accomplished distance runner (olympic 10k silver, marathon bronze, one majors gold and two silvers), and the best male distance runner the US has seen for quite a while (basically owned the US champs for years, national record times across a range of distances).
I see no reason to count him out on account of where he is relative to Kipchoge. He has never been comparable to Kipchoge in the marathon. But he is good enough to be a legit contender in any world class field.

“somewhat accomplished” , what a joke.
This, 100%. Rupp is 6 weeks out from Boston and buried in marathon training. He ran this as a threshold workout as part of his marathon training. How many of you are going to PR a 15K, when you’re nose in marathon training miles? None of you, if you’re doing your marathon training right.
Rupp is fine.
