How fast do you think they could do it? Could they break the record? If so, by how much?

16:27.

16:12
American Fork in 2017 had its fastest three runners in their 4 x 1600 record of 16:41.30 split in 12:15.79, an average of 4:05.263 for 1600. Figuring that Newbury Park can run four deep at that pace, it would be 4:06.70 a mile, or 16:26.80. If they could knock a few seconds off of that, it would be even more amazing. Anything they do in that realm is the most likely never to be broken U.S. high school track record, although Mondo Duplantis’ pole vault and Michael Carter’s shot put are also crazy good. My pick is 16:20, after a couple of successive records, which is stunningly faster than American Fork’s 16:47ish equivalent.

Could run 16:2o;, if they emphasized it as a goal, I think you have it right. 16:10 possible, if everything worked right and that was their season target, but why would that be their season target?
16:18 this year
16:12 next year (They will have three sub-4 guys and will just need one more sub-4:10 guy to round out the squad)
Next weekend probably around 16:25-16:30. Will be tough having to lap everyone in the field multiple times, hope they keep the field size small.
In the spring if they can get into a collegiate race like Penn Relays they can go sub 16:10/
15 minutes 59 seconds 98 milliseconds.
sub 16:10 imo. They all are in sub 4:03 shape rn, and they are treating this as the most important race of the indoor season. They have taken almost a month before this race and a month after of no racing, and in interviews they have all stated that this is of big importance to them, so I think this will be a really all out attempt. Even though individual mile splits won't be counted I can't help but think they're all going to try to go for a pr here, even Colin and Aaron, who have the 800 the next day.
Lex - 4:07
aaron - 4:06
Colin - 4:02
Leo - 4:08
16:23ish
Each to their own, but I personally think this would be a lot of fun to train for.
I'm thinking that 61s per lap is around 2K pace for the four of them, and the trick is to train to run it solo. Imagine a five week plan where the first week's workout is 10X400 @ 60-61 with 60s rest, but the difference is that each of them is staggered around the track, so they each start at their own turn/straightaway. Next week, same stagger, but do 8X500 @ the same pace with 75 seconds rest; week following, 7 X 600 @ the same pace with 90 seconds rest, and then the , 8X200 at 27-29s w/ 1 minute rest to get a little sharper. Fifth week, run the race.
I think they'd get about 16:20 at that point. Problem is, it's kind of no man's land, pace-wise, for the other races they want to run. But heck, I loved relays in HS/College. They're all likely to have solid college careers, so this is all kind of low-stress. With that in mind, I'd make the 4X1M the goal race and plan accordingly.
I think that they could go sub 16 in a 4x1600, but the problem is going to be getting around people they lap. This means they probably will run 16:12-16:20
I think there are two answers to this question:
1) 16:10, if they were in a race with college teams. The competition would push them along to not just a national record but a truly historic time.
2) Closer to 16:30 if they were racing high school teams. They'd be all alone the entire race (with the possible exception of the first leg if a Gavin Sherry/Zane Bergen-type ran the first leg for his relay).
As great as they are, it's hard to run 4-minute miles all by your lonesome. I think you'd lose a second a lap having no competition.

I agree that running on your own will result in a slower time. Let's not forget that running right behind someone conserves energy (what is it, 7%?). And then having to circle the runners they lap. All this said somewhere in the 16:20s sounds about right, but it wouldn't surprise me if they ran under 16:20.

They’ll run solo, so 16:25 to 16:30. If they were in a college competition I would say 16:00 to 16:10.
Maybe at Penn this spring.

Very fast.
I'm sure they will destroy the record indoors, but if they run something like Penn in April it will be a race for the ages. I hope they can somehow do Penn and run 16:05ish
I'd also like to see them do a DMR sometime this season, but with limited races and the need to have the boys run individual races the opportunity may not come up.

This season they've run 3:58/8:33, 7:57, 8:39, and 4:05/8:01. Two weeks before his 3:58, Colin ran a 4:05. Aaron is supposed to have the most speed, so he may be ready for a sub-4. Lex and Leo have beaten him all year, so they may be ready for it too. If not, they're right on the edge.
As much as I'd love to see it, I don't think we're seeing a sub 16:10. They're all in monster shape right now, but it's a massive task to expect 4:02s from everyone. For sub 16:10, 3 juniors and a senior would need to run 60-61 per lap with only themselves as pacers, while also lapping people the entire way, and none of them can mess up. I give it a 2% chance of happening, max.
I'm rooting for them to break 16 though. That would undoubtedly be the greatest HS record ever. 15:58.
