They could first attack Alaska and then move eastward with submarines attacking the East coast. The Capitol police can't even keep out a few 100 hooligans - how can they prevent DC from being taken over by a super power like Russia? Are we doomed?

Oh no, we’re doomed-read in a C3-PO voice.
Read what you wrote again, then go look at a map.
No, Russia is not a threat to invade the U.S. There is, however, a disturbing possibility that they could do something stupid with nuclear weapons/reactors.

Russia vs Detroit, hmmm?

This would sure harm Canada, not sure what effect it would have on taking over the US though.
What makes you think their military is 1000 times better than 25 years ago? Even it was, we are still better.
Much of their stuff is junk. We destroyed the state-of-the-art Iraqi (Russian) air defense system in like 1 or 2 days.
Their most common tank, the T-72, was introduced in the early 1970s. Our M-1 tanks literally blew the turrets off the T-72 in Iraq.
Their navy is old. Their bombers are old. Their fighters aren't anywhere near as good as ours.
Our pilots and ground forces have 20 years of recent combat experience.

Have you ever heard of the Red Baron? They might have 1000 of those guys ready to rumble.
lol, is this a serious question? The U.S. completely destroys Russia on every defense metric. Not even close.
Also, remember the U.S. military has been sharpening its sword for the last 30 years in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait. Russia has not been actively fighting wars like we have.
Great, somebody else jumping on the "let's praise Russia for no good reason" bandwagon.
Of course they can't take over the US. If they thought they could, I'm sure they would give it a go. And what do the Capitol police have to do with a Russian invasion? You do realize that the US Armed Forces are a separate entity from the Capitol police?
Our Navy and Air Force are still far superior. That being said, no good would come from a war between the Super Powers, only mutual destruction.
Maybe those subs can tow this piece of junk across the Atlantic. I think it runs on used cooking oil.

You are an idiot.
The Red Baron was German, not Russian. Read a history book.

The two superpowers today are US and China, not Russia. The Russian army is about the same size as the French.
We have more combat aircraft, nuc subs, more and better tech.
It would depend on where the war is fought.
Alan
Imagine those submarines plowing through the Canadian Rockies, They would never get an environmental permit. Wait until Trudeau gets pissy. Vladimir is toast.
Their soldiers would need to be fully vaxxed else Canada won’t let them through
Russia is infinitely better equipped and the air force has a fair amount of combat experience from flying missions in Syria. But the Russian army has not seen real combat since the Chechen war. And in that conflict, the Russians just bombed the sh#t out of every place they found separatists and were not very effective in direct combat with the separatist forces.
There are early signs that Ukraine forces have been able to extract some losses in defending their country. As you can tell from the pictures in the link below, Russian conscripts are a pretty ragged bunch. Beyond a relatively small number of elite fighting units, the Russian armed forces may not be that formidable. And I have also heard that a lot of Russia's equipment is old junk that is inferior to state of the art US weapons systems. So, on paper, Russia's military looks to be comparable to the US. But that is generally because Russia rarely retires equipment and spends only a tenth of what the US spends on its military.

I would have agreed with you one year ago. Much has changed. The level of incompetence in this administration is staggering.
