Can you imagine the olympic marathon being changed to 14 miles the morning of the race?

Worst thing I’ve heard. Yes the conditions is harsh, but they are killing the chance for the competitors to win the most prestigious gold in the sport.
30km, not 28km!

My bad I did not intend to include an! In my comment. Sorry
the first time in the history of the olympics. harsh conditions, yes, but all of the competitors have trained in conditions like that quite often, for years. it's windy but minus 10 c is not too brutal. i can't understand it. the winner: bolshunov. at least the decision to downsize the event did not stop the best athlet. congratulation!
4*7.1km. Temperature of -17-18 C and gusty winds. Correct decision.
Cross country competition at these olympics has been a constant farce. Skiers were notified of this change while they were warming up. The correct move would be to reschedule it to tomorrow. If the conditions are still bad, shorten it then. Bolshunov would likely have won either way, but other competitors were surely impacted. Strong skiing by Scott Patterson, 6 seconds from 6th!
This decision was in favour of J. Klaebo (Norway), but he seemed to be tired and collapsed in the middle. A serious competitor was S. Krueger as he did not participate in any of the previous Oly races. He was indeed, but surprisingly did not fight with Bolshunov in the end. Moreover, lost silver to another Russian.
In total, as far as the distance races are concerned, the Russian men's team showed that they were stronger than the Norwegians in "real winter" conditions (cold, "slow" and hard snow).
30km freestyle cc, 19/02/2022 (The distance was changed from 50 km and reduced to 30 km because of the very cold and windy conditions, which according to the Olympic committee put the athletes in danger of hypothermia and other conditions) The temperature was between -17 and -20 during the race with the windchill factor of -30.
1. Bolshunov ROC 1:11:322. Yakimushkin ROC 1:11:38
3. Krueger Norway 1:11:39
4. Maltsev ROC 1:11:43
5. Roethe Norway 1:11:48
6. Spitsov ROC 1:11:58
7. Parisse France 1:12:01
8. S.Patterson USA 1:12:06 (top American)
9. W.Poromaa Sweden 1:12:29
10. M.Manificat France 1:12:30
Also:
16. Jens Burman Sweden 1:14:22
19.P. Hyvarinen Finland 1:14:49 (top Finn)
27. O.Leveille Canada 1:15:54 (top Canuck)
38. C.Halfvarsson Sweden 1:16:47
39. L.Johansson Sweden 1:17:16
DNF - Johanes Klaebo Norway - this guy was one of the favorites with Bolshunov (ROC).
DNS - Michal Novak Czech
Reading the bios of these guys, it seems that they use the metric “the number of hours” of training per year and I see most of these guys are 800+ hours per year training. I’m not sure if that includes incidental training in the gym, weights and everything else because actually in the big picture 800 hrs per year doesn’t seem that much training compared with, for example, cyclists and rowers. It’s less than three hours per day. World class swimmers also train much more with a minimum of around four hours per day. Same goes for triathletes obviously.
Sorry, my bad, forgot to include this in the previous post.

My bad again - it was indeed 28 km and not 30 km. I stand corrected. This makes more sense in view of the times that were achieved by the leaders, one hour and 11 minutes.
Winter Olympics is a joke.
Kinda ridiculous to do this to one of the premier events of the winter Olympics.
Guess the Chinese are extra paranoid cause of that mass casualty event at one of the mountain races they held last year.
Didn't affect top guy Bolshunov as he gets his 3rd gold of the games. Won by over 5 seconds. 30k to 50k he is top dog so this was just about in his wheelhouse.
How do you think this benefits Klaebo? He beat Bolshunov at last years WC 50k ;)
Both mens and womens norwegian teams got their sh*t pushed in in China. Good race for Krüger. I thought Spitsov would have taken silver, but that Russian team is just so deep. Tomorrow’s race should be a bore.. maybe We see a Russian silver/bronze (Stupak/Sorina/Nep).
Watch out for Jessie Diggins (USA) and Therese Johaug (Norway), both of whom have legitimate medal aspirations in that race tomorrow. Diggins has tons of courage. I also like Charlotte Kalla (Sweden), but not sure about her form at this time.
I think one of the significant advantages that the ROC team has is that they have the waxing for the skis down to a fine art. They have really invested in that aspect of the sport and it’s really paying off with huge dividends. You could see this in the 28 km today during which time every time there was a slight downhill, Bolshunov’s skis were so much more effective compared with his rivals. It was almost like night and day.
I guess it was cold. Finnish skier Remi Lindholm suffered ”frost bite of the penis” after finishing 28th today. Poor guy :/

Just because Africans are too uncoordinated to XC ski?
This particular olympics is a joke.
