Rheinhardt Harrison can’t break 4 in the mile

Gotta be a mental block. He will get there eventually, fingers crossed.

Whether he does it this year (I assume he will), he will go well under next year at Oregon.

It's very hard for me to imagine he doesnt do it. The real question is if he'll be the fastest hs miler in the US by the end of the season. Colin's got him by quite a bit right now, and Sherry, Martin, and Burns arent far behind...

I was at the meet this afternoon. The DMR was insane and the miles were quite good.

He went to the back of the field, and was never really in the race, but her closed well (maybe 28.5 or so). If he wants to break 4, he has to get into the mix at the front of the field.

For what it’s worth, he looks like a 22 year old.

He’s not an also ran. He’s a really talented kid. Just needs to put himself into the mix.

I think he will be behind all four of NPs top 4 by the end of the season for the mile. They could all be under 4:00 this season.

I feel a John Landy moment coming where he breaks 4 for this 1st time with a 3:56.

I agree, he’s due for a big performance. I can see him busting a 3:57/58 later this spring. Maybe he runs Pre Classic or another prestigious meet with pros?

Most of the best HS runners tend to be older; it's a chronology and bio-banding interaction at this age. Most of that advantage dissipates by 21, but by then he'll be racing 26 year olds from BYU

Harrison's best event for now is the 3000m, 5000m his best chance for a HS record, provided he keeps his mileage <60/week.

I think he's going to smash 4 when he finally does it, but the thing is that he also broke his own Florida xc state record last fall, so he's by no means peaked. 

This kid isn't over-aged, and he ran 4:01 in the summer just before his junior season, in addition to owning the state FLYRA (youth) xc course record from 8th grade. He's been good for a long time.

Is there a HS runner who gets more threads started about him than Harrison?

he's got a few months to break 4 before the end of high school. not that he needs to anyway. He is still likely to have an awesome running career.

Hence my earlier comment. Dude's in a perpetual struggle for recognition. Like JS, I literally have never heard of him other than on this Board. No media that I've seen seems to be aware of him.

That's OK, I guess. The Wizard starts threads about himself. Nike employees and interns do the same. Self promotion is fine. I'm just not one who is fooled by threads obviously started by the subject. Someone is frequently starting them. There's really only one obvious suspect. Calling a spade a spade is the saying, I guess.

Landy ran 3:57.9 which in those days was rounded up to 3:58.0.

He never ran 3:56.
