I agree with you 100%.  What a sham and how pitiful.  Shscherbakova and Trusova have the same coach and trainers and handlers, so to think they’ve not been fed the same endurance cocktail as Valieva stains all credibility.   If Valieva is doped, all three of them surely are.  Nary a word about this during the NBC broadcast.  

This is about humiliating Russia in the buildup to another fake war. If she was from any other country they would have buried the positive test.

BS. The Russians humiliated themselves by doping a 15 year old and then making up the absurd story that she probably got it drinking out of her grandfather's glass.

Every Olympics some athletes are busted, so why would they have buried this one if she weren't Russian?

BBC called Weir's commentary of the 15 year old the "most sicking " in Olympic history .

The irony is that Weir has stated in the past that he was constantly bullied growing up due to being so extreme in the way he openly portrayed his homosexuality and yet, here he is, bullying a 15-year-old girl on television. As the commentators of the competition, Lipinsky and Weir have an obligation to be completely unbiased in their call of the competition and simply call the action. They cannot show any favoritism nor antipathy toward any competitors. If you ever watch College Gameday, you'll notice that if one of the crew is calling a football game that day, he won't make a prediction of who will win that game. The announcer cannot show any partiality. Weir and Lipinsky have had it in for Kamila Valieva since the day the test result was announced, before any investigation had even started.

Until this Olympics I felt they were great to listen to during a figure skating competition. Now I hope to never hear them call a competition ever again. We have had way too many Olympic medalists, male and female, over the years. Get someone else in the booth, NBC.

I have to agree with this. They toned down their message over the past day but when they called the short program, I cringed at what they were saying. I think someone at NBC had a talk with them in between the two events.

Except that it wasn't the US that did it. The lab that tested her as positive and then sat on the test until February was Swedish. After that, it was in the hands of the IOC, the skating federation, and CAS.

Agree. It's a shame because the girl is an incredible talent but this might actually be the end of her career.

I feel horrible for the skater. However, I'm not sure what her team should have done: leave her in or withdraw her from the competition. It wasn't surprising that the pressure got to her. But who knew her skating level would decline that much? 

During the ordeal, I kept wondering what Letsrun would say if it were a runner at last year's Olympics. We had a huge situation but that was resolved, if controversially, before the Trials. Weir and Lipinski made it clear that they felt she should not be allowed to participate. My feeling is that the pertinent authority hadn't made a final decision and hadn't issued any suspension sentence therefore she should have been allowed. We're pretty opinionated around here so I'm sure there would be a lot who judge her guilty before proven otherwise. (And, as I understand, there are a couple different things under contention so even if "guilty" she may get off on technicalities and we need to respect that process.)

Anyway, the timing of the positive test meant that there would be controversy for this event one way or another without an accelerated process, which was probably impossible given it was only announced February 8.

I'm not sure if you watched it but she was messed up before she even started skating. The look on her face said it all. Anyone who coaches, especially at that level should have been aware of it. It was clear to the rest of the world.

But clearly, they could care less about this girl.

Also, as I said, for a number of reasons things would have been even worse for her if she won. She was in a no-win situation before she started.

Her coaches failed her twice and need to answer for it. I have a feeling they will now.
