Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invokes never-used Emergencies Act. How are Canadians ok with this?

My civil liberties will be affected in no way. The only ones whose liberties will be affected are those acting outside the law.

Local police have not been able to safely disperse the extremists, which is the whole point.

These powers include, but are not limited to, giving his government the power to prohibit public assembly and travel. He has also stated he will freeze bank accounts of protesters to get them to submit to the government.

I know the response will be something like “what about you Americans and Trump?” But not even Trump did anything close to this power grab wise- this is honestly some Soviet Union level stuff.

I’ve always thought as Canadians as similar to Americans when it comes to jealously guarding their freedom but this kind of destroys that illusion. Are average Canadians really ok with this?

difference between american and non-american right here. American's see stuf like this and the only thing that comes to their mind is "noooo, waahahhh, ma freeedoms!" lol. It's not like that here though. Everyone hated the truckers protests and no one gives a **** about this emergency act thing. Thanks for the concern though OP

I as an American take that as a compliment.

Suspending basic civil liberties , limiting freedom of movement and freezing bank accounts is a dangerous precedent to set. Yeah, I get it, you personally don’t like what the truckers stand for. However, Trudeau won’t be in power forever and perhaps the next guy in charge will use these same powers to limit your freedoms. You won’t have a leg to stand on when you cry “This is tyranny! How about my freedom!”

They don't like what the truckers are DOING. Which, is infringing on EVERYONE'S rights whether it be lawful travel or conducting business or having an successful economy.

If these were blacks protesting something, you';d be calling for water cannons.

These actions are being taken only against those persons who are actively interfering with the rights of others, notably the vast majority, to engage in free commerce.
