I would have tried a word with 3 of those consonants (k, t, p, w, h) knowing it would be wrong. This is how I play my 3rd or 4th word just to narrow down consonants.
Cool. I started with a 21-game winning streak and then got stuck on "skill" because I tried "still", "spill", "swill", and "shill" just trying to get that second letter. The second time I lost was a similar situation.
You probably know this now but that was a bad strategy. If you have many possibilities you need a word that narrows it down by more than one at a time.

I've been playing on "hard mode" lately, and will eventually lose because you can't make plays like that. Once you get to "s_ill," you're locked into trying one new letter at a time. It doesn't seem to be much harder otherwise; there's just this one looming situation where you get screwed.

That would have been a good strategy. I was impatient.
I'm at 100% since starting whenever they had an article on this in the Times, maybe a month ago, but nothing special for speed or #, usually 3-4, several five. It's fun and I like that you can't possibly waste that much time. Key to strategy is definitely to choose a word with all different letters at the beginning, and probably a good idea to have a word with multiple vowels, since that quickly narrows it down.

Played today for the first time after I saw this thread. I got it in five guesses. Can you only play once per day and does that mean everybody gets the same word? Can words have two of the same letter or are they always used only once?
