I’ve never watched Demoor’s Youtube videos— just followed some of the threads about him and looked at his Strava every once in a while.
Training in Colorado in the winter can be difficult, but this week has been perfect for training and as good as you could hope for with a half marathon coming in a few weeks. In Denver, it’s been sunny with little wind and most of the paths and roads are clear of snow— some tracks are as well. You’d be wanting to put in some good speedwork as well as some solid tempo efforts— especially if you’re trying to run sub-5:00 pace. Obviously you can’t prepare for the humidity of Tampa in Denver, but you can get in some real quality right now without having to resort to the treadmill or indoor track.
So… where do you think Seth Demoor is? If you guessed he went to Leadville to run a bunch of doubles at 9:00+ mile pace, you are correct! I love Leadville, but going there to train in the winter is among the most pointless things I can imagine. 95% of the trails— and 100% of the good ones— are completely inaccessible. To go to 10,000 feet in February to train for a flat half marathon at sea level is one of the most counterproductive things I can imagine. I honestly don’t get it.
