Walls do work to protect private property.  If you have trouble seeing the difference between hundreds of miles of border wall that cost billions vs a small private property, you might be a Fox news viewer.

BTW, every friend I had who started out liberal or cared about poor people changed when they came into money. I consider myself smack in the middle of the spectrum, but generally I say just pick a lane and stick with it.

This is how neoliberalism has been able to rot the core of the Democratic party in a microcosm.  Obama was a real progressive when he was working as a community organizer.  He was given a path to political power thanks to people like Marty Nesbitt (the extremely rich guy who bought the property in HI and is obviously letting Obama have it in exchange for being on the board of Obama's foundation).  The Obamas (Michelle is actually rumored to be to the left of Obama on many issues) were captured by the likes of Nesbitt and the wealthy Chicagoans who surrounded Rahm Emmanuel and other machine players.  They were not just political funders, but became friends and took the Obamas in to their social circles (Michelle probably got her political gigs in Chicago city government and subsequent corporate gigs through this network).  Obama then turns into a moderate, eschewing his progressive days as the folly of his youth.  Obama goes all in with big bank bailouts and screws all the people who got caught up on the borrower side of the 2008 market crash.  Obama blows off promises to confront global warming and lets fracing flourish across the US (and bragged about it).  And now, the Obamas are reaping the rewards of being the servants of the neoliberal order.  They are independently wealthy, building dream homes in HI and Martha's Vineyard and hobnobbing with celebrities.  

Kirsten Sinema followed the exact same trajectory as have many other Dems who trace their roots back to progressive activism but are now corporate tools (Reps. Ryan, Clyburn, etc.).

You're right, as I remember, the Berlin Wall was really more meant to be symbolic rather than a practical border wall. I'm convinced.
