Nico Young 3:56.00 - 3rd collegian at UW.

Nur looked great. Young definitely ran better last week, he and Bosley can clearly handle the altitude well, but I think if anything this race and Grijalva’s solidifies the altitude conversions in my mind. Young and Bosley ran a bit slower, but they also lost to people they normally wouldn’t. Nur and Grijalva ran much better than their converted performances.

Similar situation with Christian Soratos years ago. No one believed the conversion, and it was definitely legit.

So Nate runs the equivalent of 3:56 mile at altitude but at UW runs 4:01....yea thT seems right.hmmmmm

Portland's Matt Strangio (Jesuit) runs his first sub-4, taking the W in the previous heat. That's 8:00/3:59 PRs on consecutive weekends.

He seems like an aerobic monster. I wonder how much mile-specific stuff they've been doing. I bet not much. This was likely run on strength and indicates some big things for 5k/10k. But maybe I'm just hoping that's the case...

Nico will be close to 27:30 shape this outdoor. His speed has gotten better and although I though he was entered to race yesterday’s Millrose 3000 event, he’s likely sub 13:20 and 7:45 shape. The altitude conversion is definitely legit I don’t know why some were waiving it off like it’s made up

Nico finally beat Leo and Lex to breaking 4 in the mile.

He’ll be just just as good in the 5000 and if I was Smith, I wouldn’t have him dabble in the 10000 until at least next year. Luis Grijalva has similar skills and has yet to run a 10.

Their times backed up altitude conversions as being close. Bot Bosley and Young ran a bit slower on an oversized track. Assuming the conversions are accurate, I don't like giving the full conversion for the purpose of qualifying for NCAA. I think it should be 75%. That's just my feeling. I don't like a guy not qualifying because he gets bumped by a guy who ran 7 seconds slower, especially when the guy runs slower at sea level. I could stomach getting bumped by a guy who doesn't get the 100% scientific conversion.

Transitioning from h.s. to college can be a real waker-upper! For Nico with all his ballyhoo and press --as talented as he is--third chair is very good! Enjoy the challenge, it's good to be in a band that has better players than you! Nico will be fine. Heart of a champion.
