I'm surprised it's not faster. Is there a record for pushing a dog in the stroller?
I'm actually more impressed with Sydney Masciarelli's 5:08, Whittni Orton's 4:58, and Dylan Sorensen's 4:37 while dribbling a basketball. I thought it would be a lot faster. Hell, the beer mile record is 4:28.
I used to win 5k races in 16 minutes pushing a stroller. That's 5:10 pace for 5k. I probably could have run 4:40 for 1 mile but I did not keep hands on the stroller at all times.
Yeah that WR is extremely soft. IMO, It could be ~4:15 if anyone halfway good gave a real go of it. (No disrespect to all you slower stroller pushers.). I've run with a lot of strollers in my time, so I think my guess is as good as any!
It may be interesting if someone ran with a motorized or otherwise aided stroller that actually pulled the runner along a little bit. Could a 4:15 runner get to 3:59 with this sort of help?
And, not to change the topic, but is there a WR for the fastest mile run (like down a pretty good down hill)? Going down a hill with a stiff wind from behind? Going down a hill with a stiff wind from behind and with miniature rocket boosters (but can't be too much - still has to be running)? What would be considered the optimal down hill grade / conditions (minus peds) to run the all time fastest mile?
I guessed 4:40 if the stroller was empty and 5:10 if someone was in the stroller.
I was running on the Spring Lake, NJ boardwalk years ago and thought I was clipping along well. I heard a whirr whirr sound behind me and thought it was a bicycle. Cheri Goddard Kenah blew past me pushing a baby carriage.
4:53.

Soft record.
Years ago, Fam ran 4:23* with a stroller.

Mike Boit ran 3:27.8 downhill. Steve Scott was 2nd in 3:30. Queen Street Auckland

I want to know how many bugs that kid ate during the run

Um , Lizzo was in the stroller .
I'm also surprised it's not faster. I'm not a particularly fast runner, but I do a ton of running with the stroller, and I estimate it slows me down only about 20 seconds per mile on flat, paved ground. (Hills are a different story.)
#1 rule of stroller running is that it needs to be your kid to count as a record. Sleep deprivation and stress of parent is part of the challenge.

This is the case for me with flat and low to no wind runs at a moderate pace. I would expect more of a penalty at higher speeds. But even if it becomes 30 seconds, the potential for a much faster record is obvious.
I would imagine this guy who set this record would tell you that as well.

Wow, I bet everyone at the race was really impressed with you. What a douche.
4:53 in not that fast.
