four more rings than marino.

In 3 of the 4 Superbowls he won, his team was behind in the 4th quarter. Mr comeback/clutch.
Having watched Montana play, he was definitely not trash. He was as automatic as it gets. It’s hard to compare stats across generations and eras. Too much has changed with rules protecting quarterbacks, age-defying steroids, free agency, etc.
But until Brady, he was the quarterback GOAT. Still is for that era. It’s like comparing Bobby Jones and wood clubs against Tiger Woods and space age equipment; Babe Ruth vs players on steroids with a juiced ball; runners from 60 years ago to runners with super shoes and 10 kinds of untraceable dope. You can’t do it, but not without looking stupid.
*can do it

Poster, when Joe Montana played, N.F.L. players on defense were allowed to pick quarterbacks up and body slam them like W.W.E. except N.F.L. body slamming in Montana's era was real.
Montana was the greatest QB we had ever seen up to 1994 the year he retired.
Beat his numbers by using pre 1995 QB's
comp %....63.2
yards,,,,over 47,000
td/int....273/139
passer rating...92.3
Numerous pro bowls and All Pros, numerous Superbowl Champion
He was THE GOAT
Now don't be lazy about this, actually try and find anyone who did it better stat wise than Montana pre 1995......good luck!
Oh yeah....two time NFL MVP

Agree with this. I wish our FQB, Bernie Kosar, was as good as Montana. He was as good as him for one season (1987) but otherwise Montana was on another level. But Browns fans think he's a HoFer.

Kosar played 12 seasons and only made one pro owl, we can stop right here.

More importantly, it was legal to maul and assault wide receivers yet he still got the ball to them. today, you are not permitted to breathe wrong an a receiver before a flag is thrown.

I know, that's what I'm saying. He wasn't that good, but Browns fans think he's a HoFer. He was as good as Montana in 1987 and that was about it.
60s-70s GOAT: Bart Starr
80s-90s GOAT: Joe Montana
00s-present GOAT: Tom Brady
All GOATs, different eras.
Your mom is overrated. Joe Montana won rings.

Montana? Yes!
Brady? Yes!
Starr? Is this some kind of joke? As a long time Packers fan I can tell you Starr was maybe above average. Best of his era? Hilarious.

He was never on Montana's level at anytime, only Browns QB that deserves mention was Otto Graham.
Bart Starr over John Unitas, Roger Staubach, Fran Tarkenton, ah......nope!!!!

Should have said 60s-70: Bart Starr. He didn't play past '71 or '72.
His record holds up. Still has the highest postseason passer rating (104.8) of any quarterback in NFL history. Went 9–1 in the playoffs. Career completion percentage of 57.4 was an NFL best when he retired in 1972. Multiple league championships, two Super Bowl wins, a Super Bowl MVP, NFL MVP, led the league 5 times in passer rating. Yeah, just a little above average.

Personally I think that is a dumb stat. To me it says you were inferior in most of the game previous to the comeback.
However, I realize most think it is big so your point is taken.
A good piggyback to your message is that on the key play with minimal time left against the Bengals, he got in the huddle with a bunch of scared teammates and said, "Hey, look over there. In the front row. That's John Candy. Let's win this then go say hi." Or something like that. His teammates all laughed and loosened up. It was shared by a teammate.
