I'd be a little more impressed if Droddy ever finished an OT marathon. I guess they get to grandfather-in Stinson's PR run under Ritz, even though he's probably only as good as his last race. This bunch definitely shines in non-WMM races against c-listers.

Someone remind who's there besides Droddy. If you're counting Stinson now, is it just those 2 as far as maathon specialists?

I know NAZ just lost 2 guys under 2:10, and those times weren't set very long ago. So on the male side, I guess they're out of the running. BTC is laughably bad at male and female marathoning, so they don't fit into the rankings. Neither do whatever NOP's dregs are called now nor OTC. OAC not a factor at the event.

Does Zap have anybody now? Isn't there a group with Hehir and Bennie? I'm not sure....

The fact Hanson managed to get Caldwell into 2.11 shape within 6 months of coaching him is pretty impressive. I'd say it's probably the most impressive result from their group. Frank Lara was always going to run faster than 2.12-13 simply based on how well he's running at everything up to the half in the last 12 months. Caldwell has hardly had any results to speak of in the last 6 years in the US. It's interesting that they're saying it's only his second race in the last 5 years. He raced every year in the UK between 2018 - 2020, albeit fairly low level XC and road races sparingly, and then moved back to the US in 2021 and joined Roots when moving to Boulder for work.

That's kind of the gist it, long gone are the days of Mammoth TC and Hansons at their peaks. Other than Seidel for the women, Americans have slid into a cozy post-Rupp irrelevance. This group Roots would get pummeled by Japanese college teams, for global context. And their best performances seem come at kinda low key events. But hey, maybe they show up at the 2024 OT and make fools of everyone else. Hope this group works out for all of them.

Is there era of the shoe company sponsored developmental marathon team over? Hansons has not developed anyone for a while and had to bring in Bobby Curtis, Biwott and Ritz so hat they appeared to have elites on their roster. Rosario did a good job, but it appears that Hoka does not have a legitimate supershoe.

Give a shoutout to Minnesota Distance Elite! Two women at 2:26/2:29 and two 2:12 guys.

But ya Roots is a pretty legit group now. Recent half times of 60:59 for Rank and 61:08 for Sydney. In the past couple years Stinson and Noah have run 2:11/2:09 for matathon and have 62/61 half PR as well. And then You're forgetting Luke Caldwell who also ran 2:11 yesterday at Houston. And they also added Syd Vaughn Jr. who has something like a 2:14 PR and 63 half. So if a 2:14 PR puts you 5th on the team that's pretty good and that's not including Sydney who hasn't run a marathon.

Post-Rupp? And irrelevance? Compared to what? He literally just ran a PR and was 2nd at Chicago this year. Seems he's as good as ever in the marathon. The US had many top 10 finishers at Chicago/Boston/NYC this year. Chicago we saw 2nd/6th/7th/9th/10th, at Boston we saw 7th/10th and NYC we saw 4th/7th/8th/10th... You're saying that's bad? Bad compared to what? When did we have multiple top 10 Americans in each of those races, and one of them as high as 2nd? Combining all 3 races we had people finishing 2nd/4th/6th/7th/7th/7th/8th/9th/10th/10th/10th... 11 of the 30 top 10 spots were Americans, the other 19 by the various countries with people trying to win a bunch of prize money. And you can't say it's because they were our home country races. Were a bunch of the top 10 runners at Berlin from Germany? Were a bunch of the top 10 at London last year from Great Britain? Were several of the top 10 at Tokyo from Japan? The answer is no.

He's on the downside, Chicago was watered-down compared to most years. He could medal in Eugene, what odds do you give?

And if he makes the team in 2024, that reinforces the point further regarding US men's marathon development and relevance.

Welp, their heavy hitters, minus Lara and Droddy, are going to line up in Ottawa in a couple weekends. Stinson, Getabooty, Reid, Root, Oehmig (?) representing. Predictions?
