I have thought about this lately. If the lucky ones who happen to have outstanding debt whenever our society decides to forgive outstanding loans get forgiven in full, what happens with the high school seniors who are headed to college the following year? Wouldn't you have to say there is no more debt creation going forward? Or is the forgiveness just a one time thing?
You'd also be forgiving the debt of people who wouldn't have been able to afford college up front, so you'd be saying college is free for them (before considering how much P&I they have already paid back), and college is not free for people who can afford to pay tuition without taking out debt.
