I've been coaching for over a decade at the D1 level. It has become clear that only a few really want to be the best and creating a team where the goal is to be the best they can be is dwarfed by woke vampires who find every way possible to take the focus off winning and shine the light on "winning isn't important"
They do this through IG posts that seem legit- like "My voice counts!" well of course it does. your voice counts. but it didn't say "you are right!" yet the implication is that "No matter what I say is right and F- You coaches you are WRONG" It's a lose lose because you can rattle off how many coaches who have been fired over the last 5 years from IG social justice warriors without due process.
I feel the most bad for the kids who really want to be good who are often distracted by these kids who grow in number each year. In the recruiting process we do a lot to find the kids who are wanting an experience based on competition with teamwork and supportive atmosphere...yet we end up getting snakes who claim to be this way, but then when they get to campus decide "I don't like running actually... so I'm going to show my worth through tearing the Fing department and team apart by exposing it for being abusive and yada yada yada."
They pretty much have no athletic value anymore and want to gain value by "exposing the horrid nature of the sport!" which is sadly taking advantage of all the real problems out there.
It's too much to deal with. I mentored a former runner who is now a coach and he is part of the woke movement and sent me a text complaining about kids trying to get out of practice because of "weather" even though it was harmless. hahaha Anyway. I think I'd rather mow lawns and make more than this crappy job.
vent sessions complete.
