The women's WR fell as well as 21-year old Ejegayehu Taye who was 5th in the Olympic 5000 ran 14:19.
Aregawi, 20, has been on fire since finishing 4th in teh Olympic 10,000. He won the DL final in 122:58 on that crazy track and now has run 12:51 and 12:49 on the roads.

With the new shoes how much slower is the road vs the track if at all? Is Aregawi in sub 12:45 track shape? I think a big advantage to running fast on the road is people just hammer from the gun instead of running tactically. Very impressive nonetheless, I think Aregawi is going to be a threat in both the 5 and 10 in Eugene this year, he seems to have made big strides since his 4th place at Olympics
This does not bode well for my Scoring Tables and road racing apologist propaganda. Now im never gonna hear the end of it. I can can already see it.
"Supershoes are the only reason this nobody broke a WR. Road racing records are soft. Scoring tables are skewed in favor of road racing due to super shoes"
Instead of doubling down on your clearly incorrect argument you could take the new data being presented and update your priors. So now the road 5k,10k,15k, HM, and Marathon records have been broken on both the male and female side within the last 3 years. I wonder what could possibly be driving this change? So using this logic it would stand to reason that the utter annihilation of every road record in existence would alter the IAAF scoring tables accuracy when compared to the track which has seen more modest technological advancements.
This doesnt make your hero Kiplimo a bum, it just means the IAAF tables should not be used to conflate his 57:30 to stronger WRs on the track. He will probably end up knocking on the 57 minute barrier within the next 2 years or so. Are you gonna argue his time is worth 3:23 when he does that or will you admit the scoring tables favor road racing these days?
Btw, a 12:49 on the roads equates to a 12:43 on the track. Both performances are rated at 1272 points.
Aregawi's WR is also equivalent to a 3:28.12, meaning this 20 year old has pulled off a more impressive performance than Yakob. So for those keeping track at home, that makes three 20/21 year olds who are more talented than Yakob. It goes like this:
Kiplimo > Barega > Aregawi > Yakob

How do you quantify talent, a scoring chart?
With supershoes some road races are likely faster although the last two years have made a mockery of so many records both on track and road that it is hard to tell.
I'm going off of their peak performance, their highest rated PR. If order them by most impressive PRs, the pecking order is as follows: Kiplimo, Barega, Aregawi, Yakob.
Unrelated but, this new generation looks promising.

Its disingenuous bring up supershoes without bringing up superspikes and supertracks.
If you wanna point the finger at road racing and say theres an anomaly there, I could likewise point the finger at the 400 hurdles. Whats going on there? Half a dozen people going under the old record by a huge margin? Looks kinda suspect to me. Karsten Warholm said it himself, theyre running on trampolines.
Americans have super shoes too. Why no world records ?

Because the 400 Hurdle WR was weak. Warholm just brought it to where it should have been.
And the "superspikes" don't have a 40mm midsole.

We all know the answer as to why USA sucks at running. It's because US athletes don't dope right?

How many equivalent championships has Arwegawi won?

I thought the 14.19 was more impressive
Are any of these people getting tested?
After seeing Taye set a WR on the roads today and running 14:14 on the track earlier this year, it still begs the question why she, Tsegay and Teferi chose to let the Tokyo 5k come down to the bell lap? I know the conditions weren't easy, but surely to stand any chance of getting on the podium they should've worked together to make it a fast race? I know its five months ago now but I thought it was one of the more peculiar races at the Olympics. I think if they tried stretching it out then they could've ran away from Obiri and maybe gotten a silver for Tsegay.
PEDs and super shoes.
