Seb Coe is right. Adding XC to the Winter Olympics would be AMAZING... But adding it to the summer as a relay would be a mistake

If it's in the summer, everyone sends their C team and no one cares about it. I don't think it necessarily worsens the Olympics. I would tune in to watch for sure but I'm in agreement that winter would be way better.

If this happens in Milan in 2026, I'll buy Rojo and Gault dinner at the finest Italian place in town. What a phenomenal idea.

Seb agrees with me. I posted that it should be in the Winter Olympics this past summer. 12 k for men and either 8 or 10 k for women.

1. While I agree that adding XC to the winter games is a good idea, "diversity" and "africans would get medals" is the stupidest reason I could think of to support this good idea

2. Mixed gender relays are clown events and need to be done away with. We need fewer of these clown events, not more.

I don't think it would be a "C" team, there are a lot of great runners who might be the sixth seed in the 10K but think they have a better shot in cross country. The great runners would show up to get a medal. That's if it's an open race, not a relay.

Seb (and this website) has been saying it for years, it's not a brand new idea.

1: there’s a lot of people in Africa interested in running. There are no Africans interested in the Winter Olympics because there are basically no Africans in it. Maybe that sounds harsher than just saying diversity tho.

How about building your own brand instead of being dependent on the Olympics? Why can't the IAAF create relevant championship events outside of the Olympic structure?

Tennis has its own majors and nobody in the sport GAF about the Olympics. Same with golf. But somehow Seb can't create a relevant event without riding the coattails of the Olympics.

With everything on snow or ice, the Winter Olympics has strange, specialized events that only a select group of countries can excel at. If they want to open it up to the rest of the world, that is great, but the Summer Olympics are still the real Olympics for the entire world.

Also, nobody wants the relay, get rid of the relay idea and make it an individual race and a team race like high school and college.

Counterpoint: The purpose of the Olympics is entertainment. It should be ALL clown events.

Fully agree with the winter XC 10k idea.

The WINTER Olympics are for events on ice and snow. Adding XC would be out of place and silly.

However it could be a summer event. Although it should be scored as a team sport. No individual medals but team medals like basketball, volleyball…

Cyclocross, another “winter sport” has been experimenting with hosting World Cup races on snow with the ultimate goal of getting added to the Winter Olympics.

1) XC is an obsoleted school sport.

2) many winter olympicses are in places so high and snowy that there is nowhere to run a XC race.

It's not a winter sport. All the Winter Olympic sports use snow or ice. That is the essence of the WINTER Olympics. Have them run with snowshoes over deep snow, that I'll agree with.
