Good call
Damn, I wonder why. I know he's a super confident guy and maybe he's not satisfied with his results post Boston 2019. He hasn't necessarily been bad since then. He did well at the Marathon Project and has run some good times in shorter distances. Maybe Boston this year was the final straw.
All the best to him. He's a good guy and he's great for the sport.
I suspect Linkletter is out too. No NAZ Elite on Instagram or Strava bio. Was working out with Blankenship the other day in Flag, who is being coached by Ryan Hall now.
Not all that shocking. I figured there was a good chance he'd leave before Scott Smith did, but then it seemed even more imminent after Smith announced his retirement.
Sid Vaughn removed NAZ off his profile as well. Big shakeups are coming.
Oh dayum.
By saying that he believes in what NAZ is doing “from a business and culture standpoint,” one could infer that he doesn’t believe in what they’re doing from a training standpoint. Which, even if it’s not working for him currently, based on the results he has had in the past and others on the team have had more recently, I dunno . . . encountering your own limitations is hard, and elite careers are short so he should find an environment that works best for him, but this seems either ingracious or thoughtless on his part.
Hauger and Linkletter just PRd at CIM. And is Ryan Hill still there or was he ever really there? Did HOKA pull the plug or something?

Hill left straight after the track trials.
Hoka are still heavily invested.

He only mentions leaving NAZ elite, so it sounds like he's staying with Hoka and moving on to another training environment. This is interesting with the retirement of Smith. This time of year always has some contract shakeups, so are there other dominos yet to fall in Flagstaff?
I like Fauble but it sure looks like he's peaked. He'll still have fine races but I doubt he has another PR in him. Unless he moves up to ultras. It's tough for him to even make a WC team anymore, let alone the 2024 OG team. Hope he proves me wrong. Maybe he was facing a reduction clause from Hoka as part of NAZ Elite (ditto Smith) relating to his past couple of years and needed freedom to layer on additional income/sponsors to make ends meet.
Baxter and Day next please, free my boys
I wonder if they are going to change the cover of Ben’s book coming out in March 2022.
I believe this will help with recruiting for future athletes at NAZ.
Scott was never into helping anyone else.
Fauble to Pete’s Dragons.
Anxious to see if his departure is handled like Scott Smith? With glowing reports from teammates and coaching staff?
Good for him. I don't get this group. Baxter for example was rushing into a NYC Marathon build, right after not being able to come even close to the 5K standard . Got hurt and is now focusing on the track again. Rosario is the isssue.
I don't think he's mentally not gotten over the devastation around the hype / pressure leading into Atlanta and subsequent not making the team.
He didn't have a 'terrible' race that day either. 2:12 on that course and cold winds was impressive.
Just couldn't role with the punches and cover the breaks around 15miles.
I would also put sub par shoe tech into it. Flat plates and none super foams have cost him at least 75 secs per marathon.
Then again he signed the contract.
Reading the book he co-wrote with Rosario, the coaching looks just right.
All in all, a change of scenery at this stage is smart for him.
Good luck Scott.
I’ve watched some of their content. My feel was that he was pressing in his training. The coach would assign too specific of splits in his long run workouts. Also he seemed to struggle with injury.
I would like to see more Americans like him move to East Africa and train. Throw away the gps watches and ego. Go by feel and learn how to recover better.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
