Jimmy Gressier, the fast food loving McDonald’s regular customer is among the favorites to take the European cross country title in Dublin this weekend. Other favorites please post here. Predictions. Spain and Italy look very strong in the team championships with France also up there. Great Britain should also not be far from the podium in the team race for the men.

The European 10k record holder is racing and seems to be in shape….

Ya, the “list” of potential winners is pretty short. Only one name on it. I wonder if Jakob is going to clown up like Jimmy at the end while staring at him…

The podium contender list is pretty long however. Ten to twelve guys have a chance at the podium.

True, Gressier does not have the same level as Cheptegei, Kiplimo and a few others, but he’s in the next pack of runners to challenge, especially for medals at the European level.

JG - Already faster than Wanders at 1500, 3000, 5000, but Wanders has a better time at 10,000 m track with an incredible 2717 in 2019.

Interestingly I popped into my local sports shop this morning, Sports 2000, and the vendor in the running shoe section is a former friend of Jimmy and used to play soccer with him when they were around 14 to 15 years old, in Boulogne-sur-Mer. He told me that despite his relative thin build Jimmy Gressier was an absolute beast on the soccer field and fought for every ball and tackled for every occasion without fear. Where are the Norwegians in your team predictions?

Nordås beat you hero Gressier easily in the European indoor final in the 3000m earlier this season.

The naturalized Somalian Mezngi recently broke Jakob´s Norwegian record in the 10k.

Philip could surprise as he did 3 years ago in Holland.

And Jakob must - as stated by ohthers here - be the heavy favorite. Provided he is back on track after his fatigue in the aftermath of the olympics.

And as you know: I am - opposite you - a neutral observer in this context since I am not Norwegian even though I am close enough to understand their language.

I don´t see Butchart and Rowe as contenders but I would add:

Norwegian Mezngi, Spaniards Mechaal, Oukhelfen and Landassem, Swiss Raess and Wanders and Turkish Kaya.

Also Gressier has a very unattractive running form. Lacks elasticity, no knee lift, on his heels. And that ridicilous cap.

Gressier is incredibly overrated on these boards by some people including yourself. He's a mid-level pro. He's worse than all the North American Olympic runners (Fisher, Knight, Kincaid, Ahmed, Chelimo) and wouldn't be able to make an American world champs or Olympic team. 24 years old is also not young. His only relevance was in Europe's silly U23 category

Wanders is also not that great either so the comparison isn't relevant.

Jimmy is solid, but he won't win. Top 5 if he's lucky. Interested to see how Wanders does. That guy showed so much talent 3 years ago but has been horribly inconsistent since then. Obviously Jakob wins.

I don't quite get the obsession with Gressier either but the u23 overlaps a lot (and is about as silly or not) with what are NCAA athletes in the US and the latter take up about 30% of this board, I'd guess and successful college athletes seem quite relevant despite often not yet competitive at international pro level. Because college athletics plays almost no role in Europe the u23 gives a certain "protected space" for development of young athletes.

In my opinion U23 is redundant because U20 exists. Either have one or the other, not both.
