I am over a minute slower at easy pace than I am during the day when running at night and workouts are right out, even considering them. Might be because where I live is sparsely lit and I run along sidewalks of major roads, with a lot of stoplights and half lit neighborhoods. How do some people do this for like half the year?

I live 1 mile from a lighted trail that runs 7 miles alongside a causeway across the bay. Some of my best runs are at night.
I prefer night runs. It’s quiet, nothing but the sound of your breath and your feet hitting the pavement. It’s super relaxing to me.
I love running at night. The neighborhood is still and quiet as I run. Some good wildlife sightings too (fox, deer, etc.)

I run in the am when it's still dark out. I wear a $12 Foxelli headlamp I bought on Amazon. It shows me enough of what I'm about to step on, that I feel comfortable going as fast in the dark, as in daylight. The cars also see me more easily, with the headlamp.
I got no issues but I don't have stoplights and such to deal with. I run usually 7-9pm something like that. Mostly paved trails, some quiet neighborhoods. Its fine. Beats those 92 temp 72 dewpoint days for sure.

I used to love it also. I was forced to do most of my training at night and I eventually preferred it. In addition to what you said or was a lot less windy at night also where I live.

I ran at dusk on Tuesday and saw a bald eagle standing in the middle of a stream. I stopped and watched for a bit. Every so often it would dip down and take a drink. I don't think the water was deep enough for it to be doing any serious fishing. Besides, there are plenty of yappy little terriers in the neighborhood on the opposite bank.
You'll get used to it. Run with a headlamp. Maybe get your eyes checked if you're having vision issues.

There are more cougars than foxes in my neighborhood.
Best college XC season I had was after a summer of running at night every day after working at a pizza shop. We used to joke that night time fitness is a real thing. Granted, I didn't have a GPS watch so I have no clue what my pace was on these runs. Great memories though.
It’s actually basically worthful but acidically worthless.
My team always held workouts at night in a well-lit park and some of them were pretty close to race pace. The OP's premise is ridiculous.
