I’m going to write an article on this defending Shelby’s right to defend herself . 

I just relistened to my comments and stand by them.

My comments specifically started criticizing the CSC for encouraging people not to donate. If you believe in the right for an athlete to defend themselves then you believe in the right for an athlete to raise money for that defense.

It’s a pretty universal concept.

It is a BS article.

People can do with their money whatever they want. It's like the author has never even heard of GoFundMe. He's not pointing out anything groundbreaking to anyone.

With your money, you could buy: shoes, a sandwich, a game of bowling, some thumbtacks...

Yes, we get it. But some people want to give her money for her legal defense. That's legal and really no one else's business.

I don't know what the CSC is, but it seems to have already made up its mind before any defense has been made, which should be a red flag.

Show me a single person who has argued that Houlihan has no right to a defense. A lot of people argue she's guilty, and that an appeal will be futile. Nobody has said that she shouldn't have that right to appeal. Your going to write an article responding to an argument nobody has made.

As for the CSC, show me where they have said an athlete shouldn't have the right to appeal. You can't. They also didn't say that Houlihan shouldn't have a Gofundme. All they said was that people shouldn't donate to it, which is fair comment, just as it's fair for you to argue that people should donate to it if you want. Your comments implied that the CSC was advocating denying Houlihan her rights which no one has said at all. You should withdraw them.

It’s interesting that the article points out that “marginalized people” (why can’t they say Black, that’s overwhelmingly who it is) face wrongful convictions and lack of legal representation, and then don’t list a single racial justice organization to donate to. It seems silly to use that point to get at Houlihan but then not actually care about the injustices Black people face.

And while I certainly never would donate to her and don’t believe her story, I don’t see how injustice in one area justifies depriving others of defense funds. Black people don’t have money for lawyers so nobody should have money for lawyers isn’t a good argument: of white people are deprived of due process, what hope do the rest of us have?

Anyway her GoFundMe is dumb but if dumb people want to give their money away, let them, and stop dragging in Black people if you don’t actually want to suggest people give to bail funds or other programs.

CSC is comeptely right here.

People who support a clean T&F universe shouldn't be defaulting to the position of "support the people who got busted because they're American, medal hopefuls, and attractive."

LRCs position on Shelby since Day 1 has been "but she couldn't possibly...". It's the wrong approach if you actually care about a clean sport. As long as voices of note continue to hand convicted dopers a helping hand by treating their claims of innocence against all matters of fact, there will be always be an impetus to cheat. By defending the fundraiser, LRC is implicitly encouraging athletes to cheat, and to use the court of public opinion when they get caught.

Houlihan's fundraising will come completely on the backs of people who don't know the details of her case. Anyone who knows the details knows she doped. She's fundraising off a gullible audience. Fortunately, based off the totals so far, there aren't that mny of them. But CSC is completely right that people shouldn't be using their money to help her try to get away with it.

If anyone cares about a clean sport, their money shouldn't be going into a GoFundMe for a convicted doper, it should be going to programs that are helping to clean up the sport. '

She made her defense. it was found to be absolute nonsense.

Straw man. NO ONE said she doesn’t have a right to defend herself.

YOU AND YOUR WEBSITE has time and time again claimed Shelby is innocent based on YOUR spreading of misinformation. This is not journalism. This is propaganda.

Shelby 1000% has the right to attempt to defend herself. The problem is that 99% of the track world is going to laugh her out of the room. Meanwhile, the brojos conflate the right to defend yourself with "look at these kooky op-eds by twitter randos!"

I asked them repeatedly to provide proof of this or they were committing fraud by soliciting donations for one thing and using them for salaries and funds to operation. They blocked me on twitter.

The CSC also lied about who they are associated with for year. It was started as a marketing activity...never about clean sport.

The CSC people should get a job. They solicit funds but then lie about how they use them.
