The coach left before the postseason game.
Do you honestly think this is fair for college athletes? Do you still want to ban athletes from sponsorships?

They should change the rules so that you can't join another NCAA school while you have a contract in place. No more buyouts.

ah yes let's just take away the freedom of individuals to negotiate and instead we'll just make them highly-paid slaves to the schools
people should be able to leave if they want to leave. right to work. life circumstances change, mental health changes, family have preferences, etc.

I agree but athletes should also be allowed to transfer anywhere without sitting out.
Oh and they should be paid.

Coaches should get the same opportunities that athletes do. Brian Kelly simply hopped on the transfer portal and found a better situation.
You do know that any Notre Dame player who wants to keep playing for Kelly can transfer to LSU if he wants them. And with the new NIL rules how are athletes banned from sponsorships?
It would be pretty funny if Alabama, Cincinnati, and Michigan all get blown out and Notre Dame makes the Playoff and then they somehow go on to win the national title and Kelly doesn't get credit. I bet this would give the players incentive to play harder. To stick it to the coach who abandoned them.

If just Alabama and Michigan lose, Cincinnati and ND could BOTH make the playoff...there is a rumor Fickell could be hired at Notre Dame BEFORE the playoff...which means Cincinatti could play AGAINST their coach for the Natty.
That's what I'm rooting for.
Like any job or profession, you have to take a pragmatic attitude toward coaches. It's not the first time Kelly has left a team prior to a bowl game. I really don' t blame him. I was surprised, though. Now he can recruit any athlete he wants to and not worry about academic restrictions. The transfer portals are wide open for the players as well.
Why do these coaching announcements usually take place in December when the teams still have a game or two to play? They need to change the system. The odd time the coach knows he's going elsewhere but concels it until after his teams last game of the year too. Awful for the athletes. These college coaches are typically morally bankrupt individuals. Looks at all the corruption that's occurred amongst coaches in college basketball and football. A lot of these men are evil and insatiable.

Yes, let's do that. After they have saddled 100 unsuspecting kids to commit to a certain school (where other schools can't recruit the children after they have committed), I do believe coaches should give up their right to renig on their contract and jobhop to a competing institution. They can still go get a job. At somewhere other than an NCAA school.
If you get pissed about a guy leaving a job to take another one for $100 million, then you must get downright homicidal at the co-worker that leaves your employer to work somewhere else for a measly 10% pay bump? At the end of the day, it's all just business. Coaches know this. ADs know this. Athletes know this.

They can transfer without sitting out and they can now get paid. This is already happening.
These coaches care about their STUDENT athletes first right? Leading young men through strong character.
Nah, just kidding, NCAA is just the minor leagues for NFL. I’m sure these kids from Bama and Boomer nation put those degrees to good use.

Both of these things happen now.

Do I think it's fair? Absolutely. I actually like this better than him leaving after the season because the recruits at least know who they are committing to. If he stays for two weeks and recruits kids, he's basically lying to them.
Plus 1) College kids can now get paid
2) College kids can now transfer.
I know this is a running forum but I think everyone in the US knows who Brian Kelly is lol.
If some random third-tier sport coach was making headlines it would make sense to refer to him as "NCAA coach" in that case

I literally had never heard of this coach and had no idea who he was before reading this thread. If there wasn't context given in the posts to indicate he was the Notre Dame football coach, I would have assumed this was a track coach (and been confused how a track coaching was making $100 million lol).
Just wait until the news of Carlson leaving ND to coach a new HOKA team comes out…….
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
