Just what the sport needs. Mantz told us he may go for the record this upcoming weekend at the US Half Marathon Champs.
It's a big ask for sure but if Frank Lara thought he could break it I'd like to see Mantz give it a go. What do you all think?

This has the energy of Alberto Salazar's first NYC
I hope he breaks it.
Is Let’s Run going to have boots on the ground to document this historic event?
I'll bite. It seems like Mantz would benefit from a few more weeks of specialized build up. Hall was a great distance runner and I have to believe he was meticulous in his prep. Not sure Mantz has been able to do that.
Good. He should go for it. Conner's wheelhouse will be distances longer than 10k. If he can maintain his 10k PR for double the distance he'll run 58:20. Give him a 40 second cushion per half for the AR? Eh, maybe. Weather conditions look great for that area this coming weekend. I predict 60:40

I highly doubt he is in shape to run that fast. It will be fun to see how he goes at the half distance though.
I predict he will grimace from the gun and run slower than Gidey.

No but they might have super shoes on the ground as that is how Rojo stick gets around these days. Mantz will not get the record though.

In fairness gidey is probably a top 3 or 5 half marathoner in the us right now (as a male)
Come on, Rupp couldn't break the record. He has no chance.
60:21 for his first.
I believe he'll run fast, but if Connor runs under 60 minutes, I'll eat crow on Monday.
Signed, Craig Virgin
Sorry, for those who don't know, Virgin said that about Salazar. Alberto said he'd break 2:10 his first marathon---1980 NYC. 2:09:41
I was just playing. But I stand by my time if Mantz races this weekend.

Not a chance

Winning time will be slower than 61:45
I was just thinking about Mantz running a hypothetical half marathon, and now we're here. I'm going to say 1:00:58, but it will be very interesting to see his signature stride convert to a road race. It will depend on his competition, I'll say that.

Agreed. For those of you that gave Rupp the honorary half and full records the second he moved to the roads - I refer to the 'He runs just fast enough to win! He could break those records any time he wants to! He just hasn't decided to yet! - crowd, which is most of you here, he certainly HAS tried to break Hall's record, most recently in a time trial in Oregon set up for that express purpose. Didn't come close....
