Yesterday a messageboard poster started a thread noting that while we wrote in our NCAA women's race recap that Whitni Orton set a course record at Apalachee Regional Park that Colleen Quigley had written on Instagram stories that she was still the CR holder.
We did a little research and confirmed Quigley's time from Regionals in 2014 of 19:17 was indeed faster than the 19:25 that Orton ran yesterday so we changed our article. We shouldn't have and now we've changed it back. I apologize for Weldon and Jonathan both apologizing for our error when we didn't make an error.
Quigley ran her 19:17 on the old course which the officials knew was 125 meters short. Go look at the TFRRS results for 2014. It's officially listed as 5.875 km, not 6km (and the men as 9.981 km). Since then, FSU officials have confirmed to us that bother courses were lengthened to make them exactly 6k and 10km.
If Quigley had run an extra 125 meters at the exact same pace she ran the first 5,875 meters, it would take her 24.6 seconds to run it.
