CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas will not renew the contract of head track and cross country coach Beau Theriot, according to director of athletics
Wow...looks like he was fired for performance, but what does this AD want?
He had been the Head Coach for two years. They won a women's XC title in that time, and moved into a tougher conference in ASUN (and didn't exactly get blow out this year).
Seems like a pretty unfair standard for a guy making what...$60k, maybe $70k.
People complain about how weak the south central region is in cross country every year but turnover has to be a major cause. These departments don’t care about XC and track for the most part. In the last 5 years I can think of more than 20 distance coaching changes in the region.
He was on the coaching staff since 2007 and was the associate head coach starting in 2012. After 15 years at the school, the AD figured if he hasn't done anything spectacular yet then he's probably not going to. They are a well-supported program.
Yeah, I think he was an assistant coach at that salary that year, which isn't an odd salary for a mid-major assistant coach. You see he is listed as "interim", which means he was probably still on his assistant coach salary while performing the duties of the head coach.
I think the guy listed above him, as asst athletic director, but under the budget of track, making something like $90k, was the head coach. Guessing he retired/resigned and they gave him an administrative position.
So I think it is safe to assume that the position pays around $60k.
I haven’t checked the roster or spring performances, but cross country titles are great, but not if track and field does nothing. Unless specifically stated by the AD, Directors need to ensure solid recruiting and coaching for all events, not just distance.

I saw the interim and didn't think about it. Thank you for the clarification.
