Assuming that Oregon fires Robert Johnson, the biggest question of 2022 will be who they will hire to replace him.
I think that it has to be Eric Peterson. An Oregon alum with head coaching experience, sounds like a perfect fit.

This is a terrible take. I would think the job would go to Thomas unless he’s too wrapped up in scandal as well.

That's the only criteria?
-10000% chance that they hire Eric Peterson.
Why is RJ getting axed?

He probably won't be. He's recently been in the news because of his body analysis methods that make his athletes uncomfortable. It's not a great look, but I don't think he'll be fired over it unless some new stuff starts coming out.

Wow we already went here lmao. I find it highly unlikely RJ gets fired unless far worse comes out or UO has a dismal year (and admin uses the "scandal" as an excuse). Oregon strikes me as one of the few places that actually wants to win in this sport & won't be that swayed by the mob unless he actually did something seriously wrong. Of which we've seen zero evidence of yet. Sure, he was quoted saying some "insensitive" things...things that would get Washington's head coach fired after an "extensive investigation," UCLA's head coach fired by the end of the week, and Cal's head coach fired yesterday (while at Arizona they'd be all like "what's one more thing, at least we're not being sued yet?!)...but Oregon is one of the few Pac12/P5 programs that actually values competitive athletic performance in track/xc. Which also means that Eric Peterson has zero chance if RJ actually is fired. Not that he's a bad coach or couldn't do a good job there...he just never did anything special enough at Tulane or got out of there in time to prove himself at a higher level to warrant what Oregon is going to want. Arizona is content just hiring alums with zero high level success, as is Michigan, Cal, etc. Feel free to pull this post up again in 8 months if I'm wrong...I just don't see it. Cheers to another year of uninformed, naive, delusional opinions and complaints and zero insider info!
Cal does not have a history of hiring alums for coaching jobs.
Peterson moved back to Eugene, Oregon immediately after resigning from Tulane. Was spotted at the Dellinger meet. Clearly those close to the Oregon program know something we don't.

Um, he's FROM North Eugene, and he WENT to college there. Makes sense that he would retire there. The UCLA coaching days were a loooooooong time ago for him. Even though he is a Duck, I can't see them going with a pick that is not, shall we say, fresh.
GASP you mean a runner went to Oregon?! Alert Ken Goe!

It just seems wild he would take off right after building a group like he has.
December 1st. This is usually when this one takes over as we head into the new year!
