I’m a 16 year old HS junior in the middle of XC though I got a minor overuse injury that has lasted a week and probably a week more. I had massive improvements in track times my sophomore year PRing by 16s to a 2:09 8 and about 36s to a 4:52 16. A few weeks into summer training I was able to do a 19 flat 5k (I suspect I’m a heavy 4/8 guy although I’ve never raced a 4), so I started to put the hammer down on workouts and upped my mileage and made a lifting/plyo routine. Over a few races I got it down to 17:50s on a harder course than the 19. This time is still bad compared to my other ones but I’m thinking if I’ve improved by that much in the 5k maybe the stamina can transfer over during track as long as I tone down the miles a bit to more quality. Thoughts?
