Argentina is the last nonUSA team to win a gold and were rated 4th. Luka put Slovenia on his shoulders and got them in their first Olympics and win their first game. The 22 yr. old kid scored 48 but chose not to go for the all time record of 55.

The media turned against Doncic at the end of the season. After praising the kid for a couple years they were brutal on him at the end of the season. It almost seemed a bit racist that he of all stars was singled out for attack.

He showed that his performances did not consist of "empty stats" as they tried to claim.

The media was no more brutal on him than it was on other players. It wasn't racism- look how favorable the media was to Jokic.

After the MaverickS lost, a few sports writers used the phrase the OP referenced, "empty stats" in a way to demean his accomplishments. Articles were written about him not being a star as important Young or Booker because he didn't win the big games. They did kick him after he was down.

If its that important to you you could Google it, but its not that important to me to do so.

Ok, the media wasn't brutal with him, I should have used critical. For many he was/is a darling and the potential face of the NBA. Some pundits complain about his whining after foul or non calls. His technicals are a testament to that.

Others felt he is not leading his team the way he should. In fact last year the trade between him and Trae looked one sided, this year pundits believe the gap has shrunk even if they believe he's superior.

Last year debates such as " who would you rather have" " who is the best player under 25" were one sided, not as much anymore.

If you watched sports TV (first take, get up, shannon and skip, other shows) you'd hear these criticisms.

He's the still the future face of the NBA.
