USATF put out the roster for Tokyo...Shacarri is not listed in the women's relay pool. Wonder if we will get any sort of official statement on why she wasn't included since she will be eligible. Can she be added later?

This makes a lot of sense on a lot of levels.
1) I wonder how focused she would be. Every interview would be about how she is coping and what she is doing. How focused would she be getting ready for a relay and nothing else to do?
2) It would take the attention away from the other athletes. There might be a few questions, but I suspect not many.
3) It could be seen as thumbing their (USATF) noses at WADA/USADA rules.
4) In some corners it would be seen as Americans not following the rules. (Although in this case the rules allow for it.)
That's not good for the US relay, but only jamaica has a strong team so maybe we can still get silver.

She wouldn't be allowed to interact or train with anyone on the relay group until her suspension is up. Not sure how much practice they do together on handoffs and such but not being able to practice because you're serving a suspension for a positive test is a solid reason to leave her out imo.

If she couldn't lay off a toke for a few months at the risk of losing out on an Olympic medal....well, it's pretty depressing.

Yes, there are smokers in Japan. And, contrary to popular belief, it’s not just foreigners doing it. As the penalty (and social stigma) is quite high for being caught with it, people are much more careful about possession as well as disclosure, keeping it a private matter. However, like most countries, go to the right nightclub (Shibuya or Roppongi) and you’ll find a source… just be cool about it. Being a jackass will definitely get you ignored.
You can also find young Japanese people smoking synthetic cannabinoids (called haabu, the Japanese pronunciation of herb). It used to be easy to obtain for many online, which doesn’t require meeting a sketchy dealer. But as of 2012 it’s also now illegal here. Possessing enough to considered a dealer comes with a five year prison sentence or a 5 million yen fine.
I never said this was her first time using it I'm just saying it might not be somthing she does often, weed isn't very addictive though so some people may just try it and not use it again or use it for years then just stop.
