Was looking forward to seeing a 3:45 mile this week. Bummer..
Is 2021 becoming a new 1988 in the 1500?
Sore throat. Gjert says he can't say when he's back in training, but that hes clearly sick. Expect maybe 1-2 weeks as a setback? If Cheruiyot isn't doing Tokyo then he others probably needed this to have a chance.
Wishing well to Ingrebrigsten.
Why do people act like getting sick is a big deal? Is it the covid fear mongering exacerbating the issue? If anything it may be a blessing to back off training and just run easy for a week or take a day off. I've run some races while sick and it didn't affect my performance. I just didn't feel good but I still ran well.

Don’t you think it depends on how sick? Sure a little cold is no big deal but most people don’t run well recovering from Ebola.

Also, were you running 3:28 1500 meters? Not sure your experiences are that relevant to this situation

uhh.. this ruins the games. hopefully a quick recovery, or the olympic 1500 is meaningless. what a complete bummer.
This is a big deal. When you're training really hard, your immune system is stressed. Add that to a cold/flu and it could linger for a couple of weeks. Sure, he might be "not sick" by sedentary standards, but the ability to train and race at top level could be hindered for a couple of weeks. Fortunately, he has about a month to both recover and return to peaking.

Possible sign of overtraining...
This 1500 is WIDE OPEN.

Reigning lucky turtle who exploited the second most slow 1500m Olymp final in 40 years after the one of 1992.
I feel bad for people who haven't watched this sport long enough to know he's an obvious doper.
Olympics 1500 might be much more tactical now
Last I heard the gold goes to the guy who got through three rounds and ran the fasted from point a to b on the given day. Personal bests mean nothing at that point.

Well when you are favored to win an olympic medal in a month, getting sick is a big deal.
Oh you ran some races, nice.

It's not question of time but of being lucky.
Centro = Fermin Cacho
Looks like he's developing an excuse for losing to the US guys in Tokyo already.
