Olympic men's marathon is August 8th. Chicago is October 10th.
Can Hall get Kastor's AR? Deena told us the other day on our post-Trials show she thinks she can.

Okay
I do not think Hall will get the AR but she will likely put up another 2:20-2:21 type of race. Rupp with only 2 months and 2 days between marathons, that's pretty crazy. But since it's a flat course I think he can fake it a little easier, and at his age the fitness hangs around a bit more and he can probably run well enough off a short buildup. He'll likely be able to be in the 2:06 range again. Even his 2:09 trials race in hilly/windy Atlanta is probably worth 2:06 at Chicago. Will any other Americans be under 2:10 again this Fall besides Rupp?
Gonna be one of Galen's last chances to drop a really fast time, hopefully there are some guys there that will push him to try. Can't get excited for Hall or the American women's marathon record. It is difficult to get excited for Galen even at this point, but maybe he can change that with a good showing in Tokyo.
It's kind of depressing we don't have any up and coming marathon talent--REAL TALENT--from the men or women.

Fake it?
Others have done what Rupp is attempting.
Will Hall have male pacers?
This is Hall’s Olympics. If the conditions are good, the record is falling. I trust Deena.

I don't think Hall cares if you get excited for her or not. Anyone who is truly into running would be excited for her and want her to get the record. She's a super nice lady with great work ethics. I hope she proves you wrong...I will laugh when she does.
Anything is possible with enough of that good NOPe dope.
Maybe this is time Rupp will "pop" a 2:05.

Umm, ever heard of Connor Mantz?

+1
Gonna root for any Montgomery HS alum and gonna be happy when she gets this record. California North Coast Section, home of distance running champions! We can now add Cooper Teare to the growing list.
I hope Hall does get the american record. And that she has at least 2 male pacers with her at the start. Kind of a lot depends on the weather. She should have pacers and stay totally dialed in the whole way. Don't leave it to chance just riding with whatever pack shows up.
Before everyone goes ballistic, the 84 Chicago Marathon had a bunch of guys who'd run in LA eight or nine weeks prior, and none died.

You know...when enough is enough and you just want to get some sleep.

There have been lengthy threads about this - American distance running once Galen retires - I'm too lazy to dig them up. But yes, American distance running - particularly marathoning - is almost non-existent once Galen hangs it up, definitely DONE on the world stage.
Based on Hall's 10000m run, she is nowhere near 2:20 shape. Her pace was about 5:10 per mile compared to 5:20 needed for a 2:20. The gap between the paces needs to be closer to 25 seconds and even in good conditions, I don't believe she would have approached that.
Awesome! Now I'm guaranteed to watch it.
