There's a decent change if the race is slow if Hocker finishes top 3 he won't make the team. That is nuts. This guy has run relatively fast and beaten the best. The WA ranking system should reward that. Too much emphasis is put on time.
If he wins the Trials he should be in the Olympics with the season he had. (WA should let the US pick its 3 people in any event where they hvae more than 3 people qualified).
I'm pretty confident if he gets 3rd in like a 3:39 race he'll get to go. Has anyone figure out how slow it can go for him to get in?
Hocker has "beaten the best"? Who has he beaten (not including rounds)?
He's still unproven against the pro's. He's had chances to run the standard and hasn't managed to hit it. Nuguse went out and soloed the standard in a qualifying round because he's smart and didn't want to leave things to chance. If Hocker's ranking isn't good enough, he shouldn't be selected. Everyone knows the rules going into the Trials, it would make a joke of the system to change them and it would be unfair inthe runners that worked within the rules.
Seriously, I'm getting a bit tired of LRC advocating changing rules to benefit runners that you like. First it was changing the rules on contaminated meat to let Houlihan's doping test slide, now it's changing qualification rules to let the flavor of the month onto the team even if he doesn't have the ranking or the standard
