So many issues with this article:
1. AA bemoans the lack of civility on multiple occasions, then proceeds to describe the predominately female voices that came out against Houlihan's inclusion in the trials as "why so much vocal whining and b****ing?" That strikes me as more than a little sexist no?
2. He asks is Des would "walk right up to Siegel or Washington and say that in person? If not, why not? Did anyone teach her manners?" Yeah, I think Des (one of the most hardcore competitors we know) might just have the stones to do that. Also, the manners comment is so cringeworthy, again with this weird sexist/paternalistic tone directed at women he disagrees with.
3. He just yadda-yadda's the fact that 5-6 athletes of color also signed onto the clean sport collective's letter, because it doesn't fit his narrative.
4. He calls the letter the action of a "mob" because no one took individual responsibility? That's a ridiculous criticism. So a protest is "cowardice" because more than one person showed up? What is he even on about?
It really boils down to the most baffling, laughable and embarrassing track and field article I've ever read. It comes across like something he rage-wrote in 20min because people were being mean to his friends. If there was any doubt about how the USATF leadership feels towards the athletes they govern, particularly those pesky opinionated women, here you are...
