I don’t know who to believe anymore. But I will say this- if what she and Jerry are saying is true this is the saddest story I’ve ever heard.
If a truly clean athlete that worked her entire life to get to this point and not just being banned from her dream, but is being labeled a cheater, it’s a complete travesty. Nothing could be sadder.
I do think the burrito story is plausible. I’d like to hear more about the science behind the hair testing and polygraph.
Unless there is 100% certainty (99.9% is not enough) this should not happen to an athlete that’s been in compliance for many years.
i worked in a lab that did hair analysis.
the hair is somewhat an integral of blood.
in that cannabis, cocaine, heavy metals, etc. deposit with the creation of the keratin.
on a minute, hourly, daily basis.
so
if you can eliminate the last few day's growth by chopping off the first 1/10 inch just a bit\
and test the rest.
you take the hair and do an inert wash (to the organic component you will test).
then you macerate the hair sample in an organic solvent (cut and grind)
you filter out the crap (special cartridges)
and inject the sample into either a gas chromatograpy or liquid chronograph. with MS detector.
you run calibration standards, internal standards and blanks.
by concentrating the sample and the extremely low detection limits of the instruments,
yields sub nanogram detection limits.
yes, i've tested steroids,
